New Years Eve Moon Rise

New years eve ladder and moon rise El Prado (the meadows), Taos, New Mexico. We followed the moon rise this evening, from the Rio Grande Gorge, north towards Tres Piedras and east and south into El Prado where the moon was rising near this favorite location of the ladder that points to the sky. A very happy new year… and as always… thank you for looking. G

Piedra Lumbre, Abiquiu, NM

Piedra Lumbre , Abiquiu New Mexico. I’ve had the pleasure of working with many wonderful photographers who joined me in 2017, when I got to share northern New Mexico with them. The weather has been fabulous for great image making these last few months. If you are inclined to join me on an up coming photography adventure in the land of enchantment, you can find more information here. Thanks for looking, G

Holy Trinity Church Arroyo Seco, NM

Holy Trinity Church, Arroyo Seco, NM. A photo tour today to Abiquiu and Ghost Ranch, was a lot of fun and many images. This image I made of the church in Arroyo Seco from a photo tour earlier this month jumped out of the files archive and seemed to say … “choose me” … so I did. Thanks for looking. G

Remnants Of Authenticity #2

Remnants Of Authenticity #2 Guadalupita, New Mexico. Sometimes I come across a building and everything about it says authentic. In this case, tin roof and shadows, puttied in glass in the window frames and my guess is… a gas flue or perhaps a wood stove pipe not to code. New Mexico has no end of wonderful architectural details. The simplicity of this home intrigued and inspired me. Here’s another image from October. Thanks for looking. G

Reeds Swimming Through The Marshes

Reeds swimming through the marshes. I made many images down in the Bosque del Apache on the last couple of trips, I’m continually going through them. You’ll see them pop up, from time to time, as I make discoveries that surprise me… after the fact. Thanks for looking. G

Building Facade Saguache Colorado

Building facade in the town of Saguache Colorado. Stopped in this quaint little town in southern Colorado and made images of many  historical stone and brick building facades. I liked the broken window for added effect in this image. Thanks for looking. G

Beautiful Bald Eagle And Moon

Bald Eagle and a partial moon in the Orilla Verde, Pilar, New Mexico. This is the first time I’ve see this bald eagle in this tree for a couple of years. I’m not saying that it hasn’t roosted here in a couple of years, I’m saying I haven’t seen it here for a couple of years. So yesterday it was a magnificent sight to see … one bald eagle in it’s roost and the waxing moon rising over the Rio Grande Gorge to put it all in context. Thanks for looking. G

Taos Pueblo Christmas Eve Bonfires

Taos Pueblo Christmas Eve bonfires, an annual event at the Taos Pueblo. For the past five years, Pami and I have gone to El Prado to watch the first spark fly as the bonfires are lit at the Pueblo. This year the buildings were illuminated by the glow from the western sky. In previous years the sky has been encumbered by clouds and last year it snowed. Thus, in this image the “north house” is visible to the far left. The “south house” slightly to the right above the lighted house. The San Geronimo Church is about eight ‘o’ clock from the bright cross on the far right. Thanks for looking and happy holidays. G

Ladder To The Sky, El Prado, NM

Ladder to the sky. In the snow day yesterday we had a lot of fun driving here and there looking for photo ops. This ladder rises over a Mexico import shop in El Prado north of Taos.  The sky had this slight pinkish warmth to it and the ladder reached for the light.  Thanks for looking. G

Nature’s Winter Ornament

Nature’s winter ornament Baca Park, Taos, New Mexico. There’s no shortage of pristine moments on the trail. Evidence of the season abound, scenes created from nature’s passion and zest, over tinsel, blinking lights and festooning garlands. At this time of year, a walk in the woods is as close as it gets to life affirming everything. Walking in the wetlands this morning, following an overnight snow fall, I found this gem of a scene. The weight of the snow on the stem of the leaf reminded me of how tenuous is life. The snow fall aids the cycle of life, the tree grows stronger from the lack of leaves, it shuts down, gathers it’s inner strength and ultimately blasts into spring. When I need any more affirmation, I put on a recording of Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations. Happy Holidays. Thank you for looking. G
