San Luis Valley, Red Barn, Black And White

San Luis Valley, the red barn in black and white with a magnificent sky. Another great day out today, in and around the SLV (as it’s known locally), shooting video for a future project. I’ll let you know how it turns out. When it is done you’ll see it here. Thank you as always for checking in, looking and for all the comments and compliments. G

Enchanted Circle Scenic Byway, Moreno Valley, New Mexico

Enchanted Circle Scenic Byway in the Moreno Valley, northern New Mexico. Often times I photograph just for the record. I began my photo of the day blog, in September 2005, partly to draw traffic to my website, but mostly as a visual journal. If I want to know where I was, or what the weather was like on a particular day in say, 2011 I’ll check out my journal and you can too! Just pick a date and visit my blog or visit previous archive. In the years to come, I’ll look back on this date to see where I was and what was happening, or in this case, what was blooming along the roadside in  the Moreno Valley in mid June 2020. It goes without saying, that we’ll all remember what our joint, overall experience was in Spring and Summer 2020. I’ll enjoy recalling these tiny little ornamental cactus flowers on an excursion today around the Enchanted Circle with my love. Thanks for looking. G

El Prado, The Meadows, Shadows, Taos Mountain

El Prado, (The Meadows), and shadows with Taos Mountain. Dinner this evening in the meadows, with our good friends Chris and Carla of Tres Estrellas Taos. Beautiful summer light on the inimitable Taos Mountain. It doesn’t get much better than this in my world. Thanks so much for looking. G

San Antonio Mountain, Taos Plateau, Volcanic Field, Storm

San Antonio Mountain, Taos Plateau, Volcanic Field, Storm. Going back a couple of weeks to my drive around the big, two hundred and fifty mile block, I ended the day feasting my eyes and training my lens on this sight. Thanks for looking. G

Saint Francis Church, Ranchos De Taos

Saint Francis Church, Ranchos De Taos. Georgia O’Keeffe’s painting of this church and Ansel Adams photograph, along with many other pieces of art created, depicting this building, have made it one of the most famous adobe mission churches in New Mexico. I made this particular shot with three images stitched together. It came out rather interesting and somewhat distorted, accentuating the building’s organic material and shapes. I can’t recall how many images I’ve made of this building over the years. Here’s one of my favorites from the late 1980s. If you click on one of the tags below you will get to see many more. Thanks for looking. G

Downtown Taos, La Fonda Hotel, Shadows

Downtown Taos, La Fonda Hotel, Shadows. Stopped in Taos Plaza this morning for a drive by shooting. Had to get out of the car for this one! New Mexico lends itself to images of architecture and early morning shadows. I’m not always up so early but when I am I like to cruise the empty streets for this type of shot. Of course, the sun was well and truly up before me! Thanks for looking. G

Dennis Hopper’s Last Resting Place

Dennis Hopper’s last resting place, Ranchos de Taos, NM. Photographer and good friend, David Marks and I made a little pilgrimage to the cemetery today. There are some interesting and colorful growing number of appendages on Dennis’s memorial. Notwithstanding, a whole lot of bandanas, a shell casing, a few rosaries and Mardi Gras beads. Hanging with numerous personal mementos from loved ones and fans, there is a Nikon lens cap suspended and spinning in the breeze. The memorial is a fitting tribute. I am one of many fans of his films, photography and art. The few times I met and spoke with him I found him to be a true gentleman. Thank you, RIP Dennis. G

Navajo National Monument, Northern Arizona

Navajo National Monument is located within the northwest area of the Navajo Nation in northern Arizona. It’s a bit of a hike down to the ruins. The monument is currently closed for obvious reasons. This image is from 2013. We were the only ones on the trail this particular trip. I’ve returned a couple of times since and never hiked down. I seem to visit here off season. It’s a beautiful place. Thanks for looking. G

Taos Mountain Meadows, Storm Clouds

Taos Mountain meadows, storm clouds clearing, and summer greening up. These meadows have been added to the list of other conservation easements in Taos County. They are now protected from future development. As a photographer, I welcome as much open space as possible, that affords us views like this. Thanks for looking. G

Poppy, In The Garden, San Cristobal

Poppy, in the garden, San Cristobal, and although they don’t last long, this is one of four and being the approximate size of a dinner plate, put on a marvelous display. With the winds we’ve had today the ground should be well and truly seeded. Thanks for looking. G
