Morning Fog Lifting, Escondido NM

Morning fog lifting, on a photo tour in Valle Escondido NM. As often happens on a photo tour, we keep spontaneity out front. Generally we have a route and basic itinerary laid out, but it’s easily modified at any point in time. It can be determined by multiple factors. More often than not, though, the main factor is about how much fun we are having and the quality of images we are making in a particular location. We worked this scene for two hours and got many images in the can. Thanks for looking. G

Stairway To No Where

Stairway to no where… well, it went to the second floor at a gallery in Santa Fe. Pulled from the archives, the physical source of the stairs in this image elude me. Enjoy, and as always, thanks for looking. G

Stairway To No Where ... well almost

Autumn Pond, Sangre De Cristos, NM

Autumn Pond in the Sangre De Cristo mountains of New Mexico. On a photo tour today with friend and fellow photographer Mark Collins, we travelled the Enchanted Circle and beyond. What a spectacular drive and scenery with amazing light. Tomorrow we do it all over again in the Valle Vidal. Thanks for looking. G

Yellowstone Elk, Flashback 2005

Yellowstone Elk. Flashback to a trip in late September 2005 to Yellowstone National Park. I made numerous trips to Yellowstone when my children were perhaps too young to appreciate most of the reasons to go to Yellowstone. We all went anyway. In 2005 when they were older and I felt they would enjoy it more, I took them out of school and we went on a twelve day adventure. We travelled through Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, and Utah, then back through northern New Mexico. We saw so much wildlife and birds, hugely varying landscapes, ancient ruins, dinosaur relics, and crossed many rivers and streams. I can only hope they enjoyed themselves as much as I did, taking them there. I particularly like this image of an elk as it was the kids who did the wildlife spotting and I remember the moment when they called out this one. Thanks for looking and for indulging me a reflective moment. G

Photo Touring, Northern New Mexico

Photo touring, on the road in the Valle Vidal, Northern New Mexico. My long time best friend visited this week and we spent the days traipsing around the mountains and valleys of this area. This was a particularly nice day at 10,000 feet where the aspens and some cottonwoods had the fall colors covered. I hope it’s beautiful where you are and thanks for looking. G

Aspen Light, Valle Vidal, NM

Aspen Light, Valle Vidal, (valley of life) in the Sangre de Cristo mountains of northern New Mexico. When the trees start to turn at this elevation yesterday, (10,000 ft) they’ll go quickly. If you get a chance to make it up there in the coming week, I highly recommend it. Of course there are many other locations nearby that will be peaking very soon too! Thanks for looking. G

Ravens, Enchanted Circle, NM

Ravens on the Enchanted Circle, a scenic byway drive in northern New Mexico. This picture doesn’t do their size justice. They were very large and posed for a few images before taking off. Thanks for looking. G

Curbside Life, Taos, New Mexico

Curbside life, on a side street in Taos, New Mexico. Depending in which direction you are walking on this street, the sidewalk begins or ends here. The weeds grow where they will. Thanks for looking. G

Milky Way From The Deck, San Cristobal

Milky Way from the deck in San Cristobal, New Mexico. We stepped outside to see the crescent moon. The stars in the Milky Way were so bright, and Jupiter was dominating the sky above the house. The ambient light in the clouds on the horizon is from Taos. The grasses and trees are lit by a quick flick of the flashlight. I’m always inspired by the night sky in northern New Mexico where we live, some times to make an image and other times to just stand in awe. Thanks for looking. G

Red Vine, Downtown Santa Fe

Red Vine, wall creeper in downtown Santa Fe New Mexico. Fall colors are finally showing up everywhere. I hope you can get out and enjoy the fall in your area. If you are so inclined to join me on a photo tour I’ll be glad to show you fall colors in New Mexico. I still have a few days open in October. Thanks for looking. G
