San Francisco De Asis, Journal Of Photography

San Francisco de Asis. Journal of Photography of the Saint Francis Church, Ranchos de Taos, NM. My latest piece gathered from images made over the years past. I have so many images of this most beautiful adobe building it was hard to choose the ones I did. So … some left for another volume later. Clicking on the picture will take you to the PDF download. Enjoy and as always, thanks for looking. G

The East Tower At San Isidro Church, Colorado

The east tower at San Isidro Catholic Church, Las Mesitas, Colorado. Looking up inside the tower of this church, destroyed by fire in 1975, reminded me of all the times I’ve stared at the sky through the ancient ruins of abbeys and monasteries back in the U.K.  Thanks for looking. G

Church In Vallecito, New Mexico

Church in Vallecito, New Mexico.  La Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores. A beautiful day for a drive with good friend and photographer Mark Collins, to Vallecito, Petaca, La Madera, Cañon Plaza, and Abiquiu. This view was through the one broken window in the gates to the church yard. Thanks for looking. G

Sentinel Birds At The Saint Francis Church

Sentinel Birds at the Saint Francis Church, Ranchos de Taos. The pigeons are a favorite photo op at the world famous adobe church. I guess one could describe it as “praise” when thirty or forty of them lift off all at once. Thanks for looking. G

Shadows, San Rafael, La Cueva, New Mexico

San Rafael, La Cueva, New Mexico. Shadows in the light of darkness. We had some good fortune last week while on a photo tour Easter Sunday in La Cueva, NM at the church of San Rafael when a lady pulled up and parked in our shot. Before we had time to get upset and complain, she was already out of her truck and inviting us to see the interior of the church. It turned out to be a fitting moment. The day was forehead reddening hot outside. Inside, the welcoming, cool moistness was palpable. The light through the windows cast shadows on the deep adobe walls. The moment, lasting about ten minutes was a poignant respite for me and my guests from Minnesota. We reflected on the continual fight between light and darkness, at least when religion is involved, before we moved on to the next location. Thanks for looking. G

New Mexico Culture, Las Trampas Church

New Mexico Culture, Las Trampas Church, San José de Gracia on the High Road to Taos. A continual restoration and mudding project. One of the most beautiful and possibly the most authentic adobe mission churches in all of New Mexico. I visit this location about half a dozen times a month and I always see something new. I am always glad to see how many people get out of their vehicles to gaze on and explore this historic building. I am surprised to see how many people cruise into the parking lot, point their cameras out of the car window, and drive away having bagged another location on the bucket list. I am evening more surprised how many people pull into the parking area and leave, experiencing no further encounter with this New Mexico cultural icon, on the historic mountain highway route to Taos. Ah well… each to their own. Thanks for looking. G

Reflections At The San Francisco de Asis Church

Reflections at the San Francisco de Asis (St. Francis) Church, Ranchos de Taos New Mexico. I made this image on a photo tour this weekend with my wonderful guests from Minnesota. Early in the morning, before the groundsman/caretaker swept up the puddles following this Fridays rain, the reflections in the water amongst the flagstones were plentiful and offered up a multitude of photo opportunities. Thanks for looking. G
