Slate River, Crested Butte, Colorado

Slate River, Crested Butte, Colorado. Yep, the colors along the banks of the Slate River look like this. I’ve seen similar colors of slate lining walls in homes and more upscale hotels. Where I grew up in Wales the roofs were all blue slate and the houses built from locally quarried stone. This particular geology has the iron colors running throughout. I like it and reminds me of home. Thanks for looking. G

Bountiful, Road Trip, Colorado

Bountiful, road trip on Highway 285, Colorado. There’s lots to see in the San Luis Valley, one of the most bountiful agricultural areas in the country. Bountiful, on the north/south route has large grain silos holding barley for the Coors beer company. This is the sign between the highway and railroad tracks. I found the weathering rather interesting and worthy of a picture. Thanks for looking. G

Cliff Palace, Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado

Cliff Palace in Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado. Cliff Palace is one of many large structures in the national park. The first image is a close up of some of the reconstructed buildings in Cliff Palace. The second image is of the whole structure. If you’ve been to Mesa Verde you know what an amazing place it is. If you haven’t been, I recommend a visit… when you can! Thanks for looking. G

San Acacio, Cross, San Luis Valley, Colorado

San Acacio, building and cross, in the San Luis Valley, Colorado. I photograph anything and everything. I shot this out the window when turning the car around. I like the stark graphic of the cross and the shapes in the buildings wall. Thanks for looking. G

Mural, San Luis, Colorado

Mural, San Luis, Colorado. Stopped in to San Luis this morning. The town is reputed to be the “Oldest Town” in Colorado, it says so on a sign! I wont dispute that fact. It was fun to hoof it around the little town, with my friend Larry and make some images. I liked this non-political mural and the shadows from the latilla/coyote fence, constructed from young aspens, juxtaposed with the diagonal field furrows. Thanks for looking. G

Hawk, Tree, Capulin, San Luis Valley, Colorado

Hawk and tree near Capulin, in the San Luis Valley, Colorado. After almost four months I’m still having fun traveling the endless miles of roads in the San Luis Valley, in southern Colorado. Heading out there again this week. Saddle up Larry, see you soon. Thanks for looking. G

San Luis Valley, Red Barn, Black And White

San Luis Valley, the red barn in black and white with a magnificent sky. Another great day out today, in and around the SLV (as it’s known locally), shooting video for a future project. I’ll let you know how it turns out. When it is done you’ll see it here. Thank you as always for checking in, looking and for all the comments and compliments. G

Cumbres Pass, Aspen Grove, Spring, Colorado

Cumbres Pass, aspen grove, spring, Colorado. Spring in the Rockies is just a most beautiful time of year. The temps are crisp and cool, the light is pristine and warming moisture surrounds and invigorates me. Thanks for looking. G

San Antonio Mountain, New Mexico

San Antonio Mountain, New Mexico with center pivot irrigation system, arching over the mountain. When I saw this scene I had a notion that I might be able to line the two up. I positioned my self and waited for the water stream to recycle. I was lucky that San Antonio Mountain (an extinct volcano, reputed the be the largest free standing mountain in the continental US) remained in the sunlight. Thanks for looking and for joining me in the moment. G

Swainson’s Hawk In Flight, Colorado

Swainson’s Hawk in flight, Colorado. I know where they live and nest, but the uncanny scrutiny this male is giving me suggests he knows where I live. Although… I’m pretty sure he could see himself clearly in the large front element on my lens. Thanks for looking. G
