Crescent Moon, Cloud, Mauve Sky

Crescent moon and cloud in a mauve sky. Hanging over the plateau yesterday evening. I look in the direction where I know the moon should be, but it is lost in a bright sky. I strain my eyes, I know it is there, then… without further ado, there it is! Thanks for looking too. G

Venus, Crescent Moon, San Cristobal, NM

Venus, Crescent Moon, over San Cristobal, NM. I was out on the deck three nights this week enjoying the Venus, Moon conjunction. Did you see it? The planet and moon were hidden, here in San Cristobal, earlier in the evening. When they ultimately emerged from the clouds I was suspended in time, until that is, a plane passed between the moon and my camera. You can make out the plane in the second image. Thanks for looking. Mars, Jupiter, Crescent Moon Conjunction

Mars, Jupiter and Crescent Moon conjunction bright and early this morning from the deck in San Cristobal. A quick look out the bedroom window at 5am. Then out to the deck for this grouping. Mars was clearly discernible and I could just make out two of Jupiter’s moons. Saturn was out there too, way east of the group. I’ve added a shot below. Thanks for looking. G

Apple Tree, Crescent Moon, Venus

Apple Tree, Crescent Moon, Venus. I was going to make a short drive out to somewhere this evening for a more majestic view incorporating a landscape. As I walked out to the car this delicate scene presented itself in the twilight. Venus and the moon through the branches of the apple tree in the garden. If it’s clear tomorrow evening there will probably be another image of this wonderful conjunction. Thanks for looking. G

Crescent Moon Waxing, Earth Shine, Plateau.

Crescent Moon waxing with “earth shine” just now, setting over the plateau. Stunning beauty. The moon is reflecting light from the earth! Makes sense “earth shine”. I just got in after it set through the reddish, orange haze. Then it got cold. Now for a roast chicken dinner! Thanks for looking. G

Fajada Butte, Chaco Canyon, NM

Fajada Butte, Chaco Culture National Historical Park, New Mexico. I revisit images from time to time. Sometimes they speak to me differently than they first did. I shot this image ten years ago for a story on the celestial alignments that occur in Chaco Canyon. Looking at it now, I am reminded of the many nights I’ve spent in the canyon gazing on this scene in silence, solitude and gratitude. Making this image I was the only soul present except for, perhaps, the ancient spirits. Thanks for looking. G

Sky Watching, Taos Volcanic Field, Plateau

Sky watching across the Taos Volcanic Field and Plateau. Just a couple of city blocks from the house in San Cristobal there is a turn out that serves as a bit of an overlook. Not a bad spot for an overlook for that matter. Thanks for looking. G

Crescent Moon, Venus, Sunset Sky

Crescent Moon, Venus, sunset sky across the volcanic plateau this evening. I took a drive out south to sit and watch the Moon and Venus set. I did a about an hour sitting and watching from different locations, and of course, a few minutes photographing. Thanks for looking. G

Sliver, Crescent Moon, Sangre De Cristos, NM

Sliver, of a crescent moon, rising over the Sangre De Cristo foothills, this morning in San Cristobal, NM. The moon rose shortly before the sun rose, so it was fairly difficult to see… until I under exposed the bright area of sky, then low and behold, this was what presented itself. Temps were around 20ºF at 6:55am, so as much as I enjoyed the moment, I was happy to retreat to the kitchen for a hot cuppa tea! Thanks for looking. G.

Venus, Crescent Moon Conjunction, San Cristobal

Venus, crescent moon conjunction, during a break in the storm today, from San Cristobal, NM. It was a beutiful sight to see as the clouds parted and the sky cleared. Right now the snow is coming down all soft and fluffy, the kind you want to catch on your tongue. Thanks for looking. G
