Riparian habitat, Bosque Del Apache NWR, New Mexico. Riparian habitat excites me and there’s plenty of it along the Rio Grande. This time of year the reserve awaits the return of the Sandhill Cranes. The Snow Geese will join them soon and the skies will be filled with primordial calls and the sound of wings beating, a joy to hear and see. Thanks for looking. G
Ute Mountain with the red barn and crescent moon in the San Luis Valley, Colorado. I headed north to the state line and into Colorado yesterday evening. The sun and moon were setting as I drove forty-five minutes for a shoot at the dilapidated barn. Flocks of crows went where ever crows go at night and owls took up their nightly vigil in the cottonwood snags. The holes in the barn let the dusk and moonlight in. A few stray critters dodged my tires as I ran over their tracks in the twilight. Thanks for looking. G
Great Blue Heron, at the Bosque Del Apache, National Wildlife Refuge, in New Mexico. I popped into the Bosque del Apache (Woods of the Apache) earlier this week and spotted this familiar fellow, who always occupies this same spot year after year. It’s always nice to visit “the Bosque”, one of my favorites places ever. Thanks for looking. G
The Big Dipper, Very Large Array Antenna, NM. One more as promised. This was the evening sunset with the Big Dipper, Ursa Major prominent to the north. before darkness fell across the Plans of San Augustine. Thanks for looking. G
Aspen glade near Hopewell Lake, New Mexico. Just off the highway and a short walk away was this beautiful aspen glade carpeted with the leaves that had fallen with many more to go. The golden aspens were creating their own magical light source and a perfect moment to spend time in a beautiful place. I think I’ll head out there again tomorrow. Thanks for looking. G
Chair, Santa Fe, New Mexico, flashback, 1985. I’ve had a silver gelatin print of this chair in my office ever since. It’s of no importance really, I just like it. I’ve collected images of chairs over the years. I seem to recall this one may have been on Canyon Road in Santa Fe. Thanks for looking. G
San Francisco de Asis Church, Ranchos de Taos, NM. This building sure puts on a show for black and white image-making. Not to say that radiant blue skies and sunlight bouncing off the warn adobe mud walls isn’t also beautiful. This is one of my favorite angles and compositions. Thanks for looking. G
Harvest Moon rising over the Sangre De Cristo Mountains, New Mexico, October 2020. The orange color is another fire smoke filter, so to speak. The actual full Harvest moon was today around 3 pm. In this image, the moon was 99.1% of full. Well, we won’t quibble. Thanks for looking and keep looking up. G
Panorama, Fall Color, Cumbres Pass, Colorado. A beautiful six hour Sunday drive around the big block on Highway 64 crossing the New Mexico, Colorado state lines more than a few times. Heading home over the Cumbres Pass twice in one week, the leaves were either blown off in certain areas, or magnificently peaking in others. There are many other places and a lot more fall left around northern New Mexico and southern Colorado. I hope you get out to see the gold in your area. Thanks for looking. G
