Illumination bus, Taos, New Mexico. Years ago this bus pulled into town. I have no idea who they are or what they represent. I liked the layer of snow on top and the cascading window fringes, the color scheme and the smiling, happy figures. I think the cross just happened to be there and these folks in the bus landed the from another planet. Thanks for looking. G
Remnants of Summer, San Cristobal. The Yerba de la Negrita plants were abundant here in our field, around Taos County and throughout northern New Mexico this summer. I made this composition in the field as it passed through fall blending into the desiccating throes of winter. Thanks for looking. G
Cold and frosty morning, leaves in the driveway preceding a walk through the pasture. The frost is getting thicker and more steadfast. The last ash tree dropped it’s final leaves today. In this picture the elm leaves turn shades of blues under the hard frost and make for a pretty still life. Thanks for looking. G
Last leaves of fall on the elm tree in San Cristobal, NM. Or perhaps I should title it “the last leaves to fall” off the elm tree. Either way, after yesterday’s blustering snow and wind, these are the only leaves left on the tree and not on the lawn. Thanks for looking. G
Monte Vista NWR, CO, Bosque Del Apache, NWR, NM. The Sandhill Cranes head south from the northwest corner of the San Luis Valley, Colorado into New Mexico. Following the Rio Grande, as it winds it’s way through canyons, ancient pueblos and thick cottonwood bosques (woods), they pass through the states largest city Albuquerque. Navigating this way as they have for thousands of years they arrive at the nations premier wildlife refuge. At the Bosque del Apache they settle in for the long winter. The first photo is at Monte Vista, Colorado, in the afternoon. The second photo is from early morning at the Bosque del Apache, New Mexico. Thanks for looking. G
“Ladder to the Moon” ode to Georgia O’Keeffe for her birthday today. Born: Georgia Totto O’Keeffe, Nov 15, 1887, Town of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, U.S. Died: Mar 6, 1986, Santa Fe, New Mexico, U.S. She would be 122. It seems like she is ever present in these parts still. I composited this from three images. Thanks for looking. G
Golden Eagle, with breakfast, of a road kill deer on Bobcat Pass, NM. Throwback Thursday or flashback Friday depending on when you see my post. I made this image in 2012. I actually used another shot of this bird in my book, which is being reprinted in Canada as we speak. I’m very excited and looking forward to when the Museum of New Mexico Press re-issues it. I thought I would share this image for the birds impressive, regal posture and downright powerful nature. Oh! … and it’s willingness to acknowledge my presence and it’s ability to stay focussed on the meal at hand. Thanks for looking. G
Moonrise, Sangre De Cristo Mountains, NM. The kitchen window or the deck usually work fine for a shot of the moon. This month I had to stand in the middle of the driveway (poor me) in order to line up the tree and mountain with the moon. I hope you got to see it from where ever you are. Thanks for looking. G
Dark-eyed Junco, in the garden in San Cristobal, NM. This little guy survived my boot as I walked across the deck. I spotted one Dark-eyed Junco on the ground after hitting a window on the house. I picked it up and almost stepped on this bird which flew up on to the patio chair and stayed there. This bird may have hit a window also. It stayed here while and I made some images. The bird I had picked up, was now resting on a fence post in the sun where I left it. The incident concluded with both birds flying off, hopefully not too worse for ware. I’ll be adding decals to the windows to warn these little creatures. Thanks for looking. G
High Road Shadows, Truchas, NM. On the High Road to Taos is the mountain town of Truchas, New Mexico where Robert Redford made the movie “Milagro Beanfield War” from the book of the same name by Taos author, John Nichols. John very graciously wrote the foreword in my book for which I will always be grateful. Thank you John, and thanks for looking. G
