Winter’s past, Saint Francis Church, Ranchos De Taos, NM. Not the dead of winter but the beginning winter, the way it looks when the moods of autumn shift into winter and back again. The adobe monolith, on the south end of the Ranchos valley stands steadfast in all seasons. Thanks for looking. G
Winter Field, with the red barn, on a photo tour in the San Luis Valley. It’s safe say that we will get more snow this spring, we won’t be seeing the hard core cold in this image. So, I’ll put it here and revisit it next winter for a holiday card. Thanks for looking. G
Winter corral fence, on the Taos Plateau. A quick flash back to a place I stopped in at a dozen times this winter near San Antonio Mountain. Not the biggest snow fall but one of the prettiest. Thanks for looking. G
Red Barn, Green Gate, Sandhill Cranes. Made another quick trip up the the National Wildlife Refuge today, where we saw so many Sandhill Cranes, thousands of Canada geese and two Snow Geese. If you have a chance this weekend to make a trip to this area you wont be disappointed. The one thing that really gets me is the call of the cranes. Thanks for continuing to look. G
Snow plant, Valdez NM. I think I will rest here a while, until spring comes. I feel a lot like this plant. Gathering energy, ready for bursting out like its buds in spring time. This image was in Valdez at the San Antonio Church, one day following a snow storm. Two feet of snow around the neighborhood covered most everything. Today, after temps in the mid fifties, most of the snow is gone. Thanks for looking. G
Valdez, New Mexico, the Church of San Antonio in this little mountain village. The snow piled up during the last snow storm. A local in the village told us that they measured 28 inches of snow during the last storm. Some of it has been pushed up against the corner of the building. The rest of the snow is fast turning the dirt roads to mud! Welcome to New Mexico in the spring. It is a beautiful building, proudly attended to by the members of the community of Valdez. Lobatos Bridge shadows crossing the frozen solid Rio Grande in southern Colorado. The bridge is a favorite stopping point for making images looking upstream on the Rio Grande to the Blanca massif. The mountains are hidden in the clouds on this day. We made some shots of our shadows standing on the bridge instead. Down below in the snow drift on the ice we spotted elk and coyote tracks. Winter field at the red barn, on a photo tour today in the San Luis Valley. This is the sun faded windward side of the barn, not so red anymore. The leeward side still retains its red patina of peeling paint. The temperature said 22 degrees fahrenheit. The windchill was at least 20 degrees lower. The weather made for some stunning imagery despite the cold temperatures. Join me on a photo tour/workshop. Thanks for looking. G
Barley silos, and grain elevator in the hamlet of Bountiful, Colorado. The sign (I’m paraphrasing) reads, “all the barley is for the Coors brewing company”. The community of Bountiful is on the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad, between Romeo to the south and La Jara to the north. It was great day out on a photo tour in the San Luis Valley exploring old homesteads, ruins, farms and barns, with hawks and eagles. Heading up there again tomorrow on another photo tour . Stretch gate with snow melt, at the Taos Pueblo Reservation, on the road to Arroyo Hondo. There will probably be more from this location, down the road, as it’s my version of Monet’s hay stack series. Please indulge me. Yesterday the snow melted and filled the cattle guard. Today, temperatures didn’t rise much above 27 degrees fahrenheit. Thanks for looking. G
