Sky Ladder To The Blue

Sky ladder to the blue. The thunder storms came today, this was the clearing after the rain. It came as a promising outburst. Thirty minutes later it felt more like a tantrum. There is still the rumbling, rolling sounds of thunder over the mountains. Looking forward, at some point, to a good ground soaking. Thanks for looking. G

Fire In The Sky San Cristobal, NM

Fire in the sky over the San Cristobal Valley, NM. Below is a piece by Willa Sibert Cather, from “Death Comes for the Archbishop”, shared by a friend on my Facebook page who was inspired by this photograph. Thanks for looking. G

Fire In The Sky San Cristobal

“The sky was as full of motion and change as the desert beneath it was monotonous and still, — and there was so much sky, more than at sea, more than anywhere else in the world. The plain was there, under one’s feet, but what one saw when one looked about was that brilliant blue world of stinging air and moving cloud. Even the mountains were mere ant-hills under it. Elsewhere the sky is the roof of the world; but here the earth was the floor of the sky. The landscape one longed for when one was away, the thing all about one, the world one actually lived in, was the sky, the sky!”

Storm Clouds Over The Rio Grande

Storm clouds over the Rio Grande from the Lobatos Bridge, Colorado. It’s been dry for a long time, which made the sight of these heavy clouds very welcome. Behind us was another system and the two seemed destined to clash directly over head. Standing on an old steel bridge where the Rio Grande Gorge begins, with tripods, felt like we were tempting providence. We headed south in the opposite direction and avoided hail and a heavy dust storm. Thanks for looking. G

Fajada Butte Landing Zone Chaco Canyon

Fajada Butte landing zone Chaco Culture National Historical Park. Playing with the shadows on the picnic table under the ramada, a welcome respite from the hot sun. I put the iPhone 7 down and saw this little view on the LCD. and snapped a couple of shots. Thanks for looking. G

Red Valley, View To Shiprock

Red Valley, Arizona and the view to Shiprock, New Mexico. Still visiting images made a week ago around the four corners area. This large panorama consists of eight images. We pulled over immediately when we saw the shadows passing across the landscape. I really like this view of Shiprock. A little different than the view from a few days ago. Thanks for looking. G

Spring In The Arroyo Hondo Valley

Spring in the Arroyo Hondo Valley. A beautiful drive through the Arroyo Hondo Valley this evening, just timed it right as the New Mexico sun broke open the clouds and turned on the spotlight. We live here. Thanks for looking. G

Arroyo Hondo, Red Willow Valley

Red willow and cottonwood in the Arroyo Hondo Valley. Finishing up a three day photo tour we ended at this fabulous location in the Arroyo Hondo valley with red willows along the acequia, cottonwood tree, mountain snows and a perfectly placed cloud. Thanks for looking. G

On The Plains, Cimarron, New Mexico

Where the Rockies meet the Plains, Cimarron, New Mexico. I love watching the clouds and shadows roll across the plains. This image, from early February, was made on a warm winter day, that, thirty minutes later became a minor blizzard as we returned to Taos over the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Thanks for looking. G

The Rio Chama, Abiquiu, New Mexico

The Rio Chama as it passes through the village of Abiquiu, New Mexico. Standing on the banks of this river I realize what draws me to a particular location is the same force that moves the river from the mountains through the canyons, across the desert and finally to the sea. I feel propelled forward as the clouds assist the composition. Thanks for looking. G
