Arroyo Hondo Valley and a Mountain Moonrise, northern New Mexico. We went out to watch the moon rising and pick up some peach pie. On the way home, we stopped numerous times to photograph the moon and landscape. We pulled over in the Arroyo Hondo Valley with one of its residents enjoying a cool drink in the snowmelt and munching on some soft green shoots with the moon watching over it all. Remember the “blue moon” on Saturday, the second full moon of October. Thanks for looking. G

Fall Color in the San Cristobal Valley, northern New Mexico. This is the valley where we live and a scene we look at every time we go south to town. On this occasion, I squeezed over on the shoulder to get this photo, dodging disturbing the powdery rabbitbrush that makes me sneeze. I just had a sneezing fit looking at this photo. Hopewell Lake, Photography Tour, Northern New Mexico

Hopewell Lake on a photography tour northern New Mexico and southern Colorado today. We spent some of the morning working the lakeshore for reflections. Later we hiked into nearby aspen groves with carpets of fallen leaves, and lying on our backs we photographed the lanky tree trunks and canopy against the blue sky. On the drive home, we stopped and to enjoy the many aspen vistas around nearly every bend in the road. Thanks for looking. G

Carson National Forest Road 437, Garcia Park, NM

Carson National Forest, FR 437, to Garcia Park, New Mexico today. This meadow was going off and creating a golden reflecting light source for the whole area around. It was a special drive on our annual visit to see the colors up high at 9800 + feet above sea level. If you have the opportunity to get out up into the mountains this week, I would highly recommend it. P.S. Look up in the sky tonight for the Moon, Jupiter and Saturn in close proximity. Aspen road, in the mountains of northern New Mexico. The aspens around Taos are in all shades from green and in some cases yellow and gold. Farther north in southern Colorado, at ten thousand feet, things are advancing fast. It is great to smell autumn in the air with moisture and cooler temperatures. Song Sparrow along Comanche Creek (yesterday’s photo) in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of New Mexico. Singing it loud and clear. He certainly got my attention, his song echoing off the canyon walls and hills, accompanied by the babbling brook. Thanks for looking. G

Mountain moon rise, Vallecito Peak, and another view from last nights moon when it rose over the snow covered Sangre de Cristos. I’m familiar with this view and if you’ve followed my work you will probably recognize it too. Last night was more subtle than it sometimes is, but while we’re in this lock down situation I’ll take it. I don’t have to go very far for inspiration either, just a couple of miles down the road.
