Soaring, Snow Geese, Bosque Del Apache

Soaring with Snow Geese in the Bosque Del Apache, National Wildlife Refuge NM. Last one from the refuge for a while. Sometimes I come across an image from the archives that intrigues me, like the two previous images of the heron. The snow geese, lit by morning sunlight, against a quintessential blue, New Mexico sky, brought me directly back to the moment when I made this image. I’ll keep returning to the Bosque del Apache in actuality and memory. Thanks for looking. G

Great Blue Heron, Bosque del Apache, NWR

Great Blue Heron, in the Bosque del Apache, National Wildlfe Refuge, New Mexico. These birds have their own territories at the Bosque del Apache, so much so, that one can find them in the same spot from one year to the next. I swear I know this Great Blue Heron intimately after all my trips. Thanks for looking. G

Icicle Drop, Sunset, San Cristobal, NM

Icicle drop, against the setting sun through the trees, San Cristobal NM. The last icicle drop to form but not fall on the last day of the year and decade. Thank you for joining me here. Santa Fe Stairwell Shadows

Santa Fe, New Mexico. Downtown shadows on a stairwell wall. I can’t remember where exactly. Not like me to forget. Dipped into the archives again and I found this little item. If you haven’t been receiving my photo of the day in your inbox, I apologize. I think it is fixed tonight. If not please let me know or resign up for my daily post. As always, thank you for looking. Geraint.

Little House, San Cristobal, Mountains

Little white house, in the pasture, San Cristobal, NM. There were snow covered mountain peaks when the clouds cleared today. Pristine skies overhead. I just think, sometimes, how many days like these this homestead and it’s occupants have experienced. However many that is, the days and lives come and go in the valley, if only the mountains could talk. Thanks for looking. G

Rio Grande Del Norte National Monument

Rio Grande Del Norte National Monument, New Mexico. On a photo tour/workshop today, we dropped into the Orilla Verde Recreation Area of the Rio Grande Del Norte National Monument. What started out with overcast skies and grey clouds, turned out really well. Image making is the objective. Perseverance is the key. Thanks for looking. G

Long Shot, Moon Over The Ridge

Long shot, moon over the ridge. Lives intersect! Characters, families, relatives. Time is immaterial. D.H. Lawrence spent a couple of years at the ranch, six miles up the road from here. There’s a poem from D.H. below. Thanks for looking. G

Long Shot, Moon Over The Ridge

And who has seen the moon, who has not seen
Her rise from out the chamber of the deep,
Flushed and grand and naked, as from the chamber
Of finished bridegroom, seen her rise and throw
Confession of delight upon the wave,
Littering the waves with her own superscription
Of bliss, till all her lambent beauty shakes towards us
Spread out and known at last, and we are sure
That beauty is a thing beyond the grave,
That perfect, bright experience never falls
To nothingness, and time will dim the moon
Sooner than our full consummation here
In this odd life will tarnish or pass away.
D. H. Lawrence – 1885-1930

Taos Mountain Moonrise

Taos Mountain moon rise. Love the moon as it rises behind Taos Mountain on a cold and crisp, clear evening. Take a look outside for the almost full moon and tomorrow’s full moon. Thanks for looking. G

Illumination Bus, Taos, New Mexico

Illumination bus, Taos, New Mexico. Years ago this bus pulled into town. I have no idea who they are or what they represent. I liked the layer of snow on top and the cascading window fringes, the color scheme and the smiling, happy figures. I think the cross just happened to be there and these folks in the bus landed the from another planet. Thanks for looking. G

Remnants Of Summer, San Cristobal

Remnants of Summer, San Cristobal. The Yerba de la Negrita plants were abundant here in our field, around Taos County and throughout northern New Mexico this summer. I made this composition in the field as it passed through fall blending into the desiccating throes of winter. Thanks for looking. G
