Waning Crescent Moon Rising

Waning (4%) crescent moon rising over the Sangre de Cristo Mountains bright and early this morning. I was surprised to see it as there were those clouds. While I was setting up the the tripod in the driveway, the clouds moved aside revealing this sliver of the moon. It disappeared back into the clouds for another ten minutes, emerging above the linear clouds. Thanks for looking. G

You can just make out a little “earthshine” on the moons surface.

Anchor To Beyond

Anchor to beyond. I was photographing the dried plants around the edge of the pasture this morning. I didn’t see the spiderweb at first, holding on. The sun came out from behind a cloud for a moment and there it was, anchored to another plant ten feet away, this shimmering thread. Thanks for looking. G

Adobe, Light, Fall, Questa, NM

Adobe light, late fall along the roadside in Questa, New Mexico. The many benefits of traveling over the same territory, whether on a photo tour or personal outing, allows me to see the subtle changes that occur season by season or day by day. This evening, I decided to return over the next few of days to watch the light shift hourly on this adobe. I’ll see what I come up with. Questa, New Mexico exudes cultural authenticity. Thanks for looking. G

Crescent Moon, Taos Volcanic Plateau.

Crescent Moon, setting over the Taos Volcanic Plateau, northern New Mexico. It was very quiet out there as the moon emerged briefly in the space between the clouds. No traffic, no birds, no planes… and then it disappeared into the clouds again. Thanks for looking. G

White House, Petaca, New Mexico

White House, Petaca, northern New Mexico, on the backroads of rural New Mexico surrounded by miles and miles of piñon pine and juniper hills. As the saying goes, “it’s not the middle of nowhere, but you can see it from here”. Then we come across this scene. A half block long, white-washed building, in a hamlet where people stop their cars and say “hello” as we make images of the house, shining under a deep blue, only in New Mexico, sky. Thanks for looking. G

Leaf, Fall Color, Highway 38, New Mexico

Leaf, fall color, Highway 38, on the “Enchanted Circle, Scenic Byway” in northern New Mexico. This leaf was lying in the middle of the road, so I picked it up and took a picture. Fall is where you find it. Thanks for looking. G

Wild Rivers Recreation Area, NM

Wild Rivers Recreation Area, in the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument, NM. Popped in here for last but one stop on a tour last week. The clouds were chasing each other across the landscape, helping to create a wonderful depth to this vista, highlighting Ute Mountain in the background. Thanks for looking. G

Amalia, Rio Costilla Valley, New Mexico

Amalia, in the Rio Costilla Valley, New Mexico. Last week’s photo tour found us surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside in northern New Mexico. The road through the Rio Costilla Valley has many places to stop and make images. On last weeks tour we stopped every few hundred yards. For the first time in a long while, I filled up a 32 gig camera card. If you’re so inclined, I would love to have you join me on a photo tour. Thanks for looking. G

Autumn Pond, Sangre De Cristos, NM

Autumn Pond in the Sangre De Cristo mountains of New Mexico. On a photo tour today with friend and fellow photographer Mark Collins, we travelled the Enchanted Circle and beyond. What a spectacular drive and scenery with amazing light. Tomorrow we do it all over again in the Valle Vidal. Thanks for looking. G
