Our San Cristobal Valley Under The Setting Winter Sun

Our San Cristobal Valley under the setting winter sun in northern New Mexico. A few steps up the embankment afforded me a view of the last rays of light on the fresh snow in the San Cristobal valley and the surrounding Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Thanks for looking. G

From The Red Willows To The Mountain

From the red willows to the mountain. Taos Mountain. One of the most gorgeous views of the sacred mountain, and home of the “Red Willow People” Taos Pueblo. The snow was an added bonus when the clouds cleared this afternoon and the welcomed moisture. Thanks for looking. G

Rural Dreamcatcher, Northern New Mexico

Rural dreamcatcher on a farm fence in the mountains of northern New Mexico. Well at least it reminded me of a dreamcatcher. Someone’s whim, to bundle baling twine, knot them on a fence post, encircle it with a wire hoop, leave for some to stumble across and wonder! Thanks for looking. G

Ute Mountain Corral

Ute Mountain Corral. Ute mountain, an extinct volcano stands like a beacon on the plateau. I like the way the white corral encircles the foreground as if guarding the mountains place in time. Thanks for looking. G

Young Bighorn Sheep, Rio Grande Gorge

Young Bighorn sheep in the Orilla Verde Recreation Area of the Rio Grande Gorge. Beautiful drive today along the High Road to Taos. Picnic in an alpine meadow above Truchas with a couple of Alpaca onlookers, in 55 degree temperatures. Returning home through Dixon and the Orilla Verde RA, in the Rio Grande Gorge we encountered a number of young bighorns. This one bolted up out of the steep cliffs below us to the east and across the road, only to stop on the west side of the dirt road and pose right next to us, for a number of images, before moseying off grinding on sage brush shoots. A good day! Thanks for looking. G

Truchas Adobe Home

Truchas adobe home on the high road to Taos in northern New Mexico. One more in the “remnants of authenticity” series. Nothing that says New Mexico like exposed adobe and a tin roof. Thanks for looking. G

Perigee, Blue Moon, Eclipse

Perigee, Blue Moon, Eclipse. The view from Arroyo Hondo, across the Volcanic Plateau in northern New Mexico this morning. I know the plateau is void in this image but as the sky lightened slightly the faint outline of extinct and dormant volcanoes added to the continuum of this ancient happening. Thanks for looking. G

Super Moon Rise Over Taos Mountain

Super Moon rise over Taos Mountain northern New Mexico. I’m off to bed in order to rise and shine early for the full moon eclipse. Thanks for looking. G

Red Canoe Arroyo Hondo

Red Canoe, on the winter pond in Arroyo Hondo. A beautiful warm sunny day in this corner of the planet today. Started out at 19 degrees fahrenheit and climbed to 56 degrees fahrenheit by mid afternoon… at the end of January. Too warm for a jacket. I thought this canoe warmed up this scene, I drive by a few times each week, very nicely. Thanks for looking. G

Dennis’s Tree, Light Under Dark Skies

Dennis’s tree, light under dark skies, in the San Cristobal Valley, northern New Mexico. Watching this tree over the years, reflect the evening light and changes in seasons in the valley brings to mind, in some small way, what Monet might have experienced painting his haystack series. Thanks for looking. G
