Taos, Shadows, Prism, Rainbow

Taos, shadows, prism, rainbow. It’s where we live, well a little farther north and under normal circumstances we’d go to Taos two or three times a week, sometimes more. This is the end of week three spent at home. We’ve been to the store twice during that time, and made a couple of solitary drives out to photograph. We made a few trips to the Rio Grande Gorge, to stand on the rim and let the wind blow the cobwebs away. Spending this time at home, allows me to dig into projects that I’ve put on the back burner. I might get to really like it. In the country, we do solitary well, social distancing is three acres. How about you? What are you doing? I hope everyone is safe and staying healthy. Adobe studio, ladder, with slight cloud iridescence, just as I found it yesterday during a photo shoot at the Couse-Sharp Historic Site in Taos, New Mexico. If you’re in Taos this summer stop in for a visit. The abundance of history at the Couse-Sharp Historic Site here in northern NM will astound you. El Salto rocks, El Prado, bathed in winter light. Pull over on the shoulder. Find a vantage point through the trees, wait for the cattle to separate with a little space between them so they resemble cattle and not clumps of coal. There you have it. Texture, Corbels, Vigas, and Shadows, Kit Carson Road, Taos, NM. There’s plenty of this kind of thing around New Mexico, and especially in the northern half of the state. Perhaps a new tagline for this part of the state might be “the land of long shadows”. At this time of year “golden” or “magic” hour lasts longer than most places, and art history in the area reaches back long before Europeans landed. Thanks for looking. G

Drive by shooting of building façades from the highways of northern New Mexico and southern Colorado. I have been putting together a collection of images, many of which depict façades that are gone and others that no longer represent their original selves. Vallecito (little valley), Mountain, Moonrise, Taos, NM. A couple of quick images out of the car window on the road home this evening. I was on a very beautiful, but very chilly, photo shoot on the west rim of the Rio Grande Gorge earlier. At this point I was quite happy to sit in the car with the heat blasting, some soft tunes playing and watching this gorgeous moon rise over the peaks. Thanks for looking. G
