sharp-shinned hawk or a Cooper's hawk

An immature accipiter, either a sharp-shinned hawk or a Cooper's hawk. The two species are very similar in appearance, though Cooper's hawks are larger. Female sharp-shinned hawks and Cooper's Hawks are markedly larger than males, and it is the female sharp-shinned hawks and male Cooper's hawks that can be difficult to identify in the field.
