Aspens Hopewell Lake

Aspens Hopewell Lake. On the trail at Hopewell Lake, sauntering through the forest in the high mountain air. Soft, moist meadow grasses underfoot, aspens, mysterious, beckoning on ward. I can take this, and more of it. Thanks for looking. G

Sunflower Sun Shower Sky

Sunflower sun shower and sky. Yesterday evening in San Cristobal, NM. A short stroll down the driveway, under the sunset, where all the volunteer sunflowers grow, and I give my attention to the moment. A slight rain, the flower, the sky, and this one is in the can. Print it! Thanks for joining me and for looking. G

Guadalupe Shrine, Guadalupita NM

Guadalupe Shrine, Guadalupita northern NM. Sometimes the sheer simplicity of a scene attracts my attention. I pull over, make two exposures and move on. Painted on the side of the catholic church, Our Lady of Guadalupe, in Guadalupita, a hamlet near Mora, NM.

Highway, Ocate, On The Plains, NM

Highway, Ocate, NM. Big storm lots of rain, green as green can get where the Rockies meet the Plains. It was worth getting wet to be out there with the scent of damp earth, wet grass, and me, and the mullein plant standing sentry, silently, dutifully along both sides of the highway. Thanks for looking. G

San Rafael, La Cueva, NM

San Rafael, La Cueva, NM. The church of San Rafael in La Cueva New Mexico. We took a drive today through the mountains to Mora and beyond. Gorgeous clouds, light, color and buckets of rain. The return trip through the Moreno Valley, Eagle Nest and Red River was capped of with heavy sky, thunder and lightning, and torrential sideways rain. Thanks for looking. G

San Jose De Gracia Church, Las Trampas

San Jose de Gracia Church in Las Trampas, New Mexico. I created this composition from three images made on the High Road to Taos from a three day photo tour last week. I wanted to incorporate the three images into one to create some kind of continuum from the day in my mind. This is what I came up with. The church, a painters tarp and a patch of rust from a truck bumper. Thanks for looking. G

Tucumcari Windows, A Photography Adventure

Tucumcari Windows. Tucumcari, NM. On the road this last spring, my friend and photographer, Ron Richardson and I hit the road for a week in northeastern and central New Mexico to see what we could find. Well, there were more photo opportunities than we could ever imagine. Here is one of the places in Tucumcari we visited, which after we discovered it, we could hardly prevent the creating process from snowballing along. I have five or six dozen compositions and angles from this one location. I particularly like this one, with the balance of three windows and three buttresses; I like how the handrail creates a diagonal intersect in the scene. The window in the center with the broken pane, features prominently in other images I made that day. In this photograph the broken pane is a surprise, revealing the interior view of the far side window. One of the things that impressed me most about the cities, towns and villages we traveled to, is just how amazingly thriving they must have been in their heyday. I think I can take the liberty to speak for both Ron and myself, when I say, that the places we visited on this week long photography adventure were one of many heydays! Thanks for looking. G

Rust And More Rust, Taos NM

Rust and more rust with some paint thrown in for good measure, here in Taos New Mexico. I love making and collecting these abstract images where ever I go throughout the years. I made this image on a photo tour last week and filed it under “decay” in the archive. As always, thanks for looking. G

Silos Monte Vista Colorado

Silos in Monte Vista, Colorado. This image is about the amalgamation of shapes and subtle colors more than anything else. That’s why I made an about face and returned a mile back to make the image. Thanks for looking. G
