Wolf Moon Rising, Taos Mountain, Abiquiu Lake.

It’s been a busy week, so I’m making a short blog post of an epic wolf moon rising in color and black and white, over the Sangre de Cristo section of the Rocky Mountains in southern Colorado. The moon was huge when it rose behind the snow-capped peaks. I was on a photo tour with my client at the time. I think we positioned ourselves just right. I had a good idea where the moon would rise drawing on my experience from my many trips throughout the area. That said, I used “The Photographer’s Ephemeris” to confirm the location. It’s a wonderful app. Click on the images to enlarge.

Of course, I can’t drive past this spot without stopping to take a photo, if it’s remotely nice. The forecast calls for snow on the peaks again this evening. I’m looking forward to it. We need it!

A minimalist composition of a bench overlooking the boat dock at Abiquiu Lake. We were photographing the stark reflection of Cerro Pedernal in a glassy lake. I always remember to look in the opposite direction.

As always, thank you for looking, for all the comments and compliments. Have a good week. G

Cumbres Pass, Aspen Grove, Spring, Colorado

Cumbres Pass, aspen grove, spring, Colorado. Spring in the Rockies is just a most beautiful time of year. The temps are crisp and cool, the light is pristine and warming moisture surrounds and invigorates me. Thanks for looking. G

Sangre de Cristo Light On Snow Capped Peaks

Sangre de Cristo light on snow capped peaks. Following the golden glow and drama on the peaks in yesterday’s image, this reddish color glimmered as the last moment. Thanks for looking. G

Southern Rocky Mountains Super Moon Rise

Southern Rocky Mountains winter solstice super moon rise. I didn’t post this image at the time since the winter solstice full wolf moon eclipse was a more pertinent image for the photo of the day. Prior to the lunar eclipse that evening, this is how the moon looked, as it rose in the east, over the snow capped peaks of the Sangre de Cristo range, of the southern Rocky Mountains. Thanks for looking. G

Spotlight On The Sangre De Cristo Mountains

Spotlight on the Sangre De Cristo Mountains, in particular, Vallecito Peak. It’s easy to drive by this scene, though not these last couple of weeks. The mountain calls! It not only calls, but when I do drive by and forget to stop, it often seems to tap me on the shoulder as if to say, “here look!”. In this case we were heading home when one thing and another conspired to get our attention. A cloud to the west created a perfect funnel causing the light to traverse the ridge until it finally settled on the snowy peak where it spotlighted the stage, lingering there for the final bow. The light slowly faded, the curtain came down and the play was over. We waited for a little while longer and then went home. It was a show to remember.  Thanks for looking at another photo of this particular mountain that desired my attention. G
