Mammatus Clouds Over The Taos Valley

Mammatus clouds over the Taos Valley. A drive by iPhone pano out the window of an afternoon thunder storm bringing hail to some elevations and rain to most places. It was great to see so much standing water where we haven’t seen any for a long time. I left some raw steel for an art project out in the heavy rains and hail to rust. Looking forward to the results tomorrow. In case your wondering, I did make a high resolution panorama of this scene. It will take a little work to put it together matching pixels in the cloud formations. Thanks for looking. G

Three Iron Crosses, San Francisco De Asis

Three iron crosses, at the San Francisco De Asis Church, Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico. Simple iron crosses and adobe moistened by a little rain, iconic New Mexico. Thanks for looking. G

Road Side Art, Carson, New Mexico

Road Side Art, Carson, New Mexico. “My kid could have done that!” … I’m sure some kid did do it. I really like it. I see it every time I pass through the village and it makes me smile. If you are driving through the area, stop in and play a game of skittles while you’re there. Thanks for looking. G

Sky Ladder To The Blue

Sky ladder to the blue. The thunder storms came today, this was the clearing after the rain. It came as a promising outburst. Thirty minutes later it felt more like a tantrum. There is still the rumbling, rolling sounds of thunder over the mountains. Looking forward, at some point, to a good ground soaking. Thanks for looking. G

The East Tower At San Isidro Church, Colorado

The east tower at San Isidro Catholic Church, Las Mesitas, Colorado. Looking up inside the tower of this church, destroyed by fire in 1975, reminded me of all the times I’ve stared at the sky through the ancient ruins of abbeys and monasteries back in the U.K.  Thanks for looking. G

Green Room At The Tierra Amarilla Trading Post

Green room at the Tierra Amarilla Trading Post. Stopped in on a photo tour today. Most of this building was intact when I first saw it many moons ago. Now it is returning to the earth with shrubs and party people occupying  the main rooms, but the mural retains its vigor and charm it has always had. Thanks for looking. G

The Plains, Miami, Eastern New Mexico

Miami on the plains, Eastern New Mexico. Lone tree and an incoming storm out on the plains near Miami, New Mexico, out where one can see forever. One of the comments I get from visitors, “I can’t see this far where I live,” they tell me. The plains, here, are one of my favorite locations for stark minimal landscapes. Thanks for looking. G

Nature’s Fireworks In The Woods

Natures fireworks in the woods on the Gavilan Trail, Taos Ski Valley. The only kind of fireworks I want to see tonight in this very dry neighborhood. Happy Independence Day. Thanks for looking. G

Cow Elk Valle Vidal, NM

Cow Elk in the aspens and long grass in Valle Vidal, NM. The day before the Carson National Forest in northern New Mexico was closed due to the extreme fire danger, this cow elk emerged from the aspen grove, only to disappear again into the trees. A brief moment indelibly etched in memory. Thanks for looking. G

Looking Down, Downtown, Santa Fe

Looking down, downtown, Santa Fe, NM. Actually this was looking down in the Santa Fe rail yard district. Shapes and colors, in that order, get my attention. Playing like a kid is first and foremost. Thanks for looking. G
