Lone Tree Sunset, Reflections, VW Bus

Lone tree sunset, reflections with VW Bus, Taos, NM. Dipping in to the archives again today. Throwing out more than I’m saving by the time I’m through. So, I thought this one was a save. I’ve photographed this tree many times over the last three and a half decades. It has finally succumbed to more than one element, namely a chainsaw. It was always the first tree to leaf out in spring and the last to lose it’s leaves well into fall. It will probably stand there, on the side of the road until it rots and bows out. The locals call it the “welcoming tree“. I like the bus in there ,although the vehicle is interchangeable, the tree is not. Thanks for looking. G

Mesa Light Rays Breaking Through

Mesa light rays breaking through. The landscape is actually a plateau but locally we all refer to it as “the mesa”. When I was driving home a few weeks ago, I just had to pull over for this one and to watch the show. Believe it or not, there is lightning in the bright spot center right. I was reviewing images today and came across this one, so I thought it time for a dramatic landscape photo. Thanks for looking. G

Young Bighorn Sheep Ram

Young Bighorn sheep ram. “I am outta here!” I saw him heading my way and barely had time to get a shot off. This image is documentary evidence of the carefree nature and agility of these creatures. And, as seen in the image I posted a couple of days ago, certain sure-footedness. Heading back to the gorge tomorrow to see what we find. Thanks for looking. G

Canyon Towhee, In The Garden San Cristobal

Canyon Towhee, in the garden, San Cristobal, NM. This Canyon Towhee shows up in the garden every spring. I don’t know where it goes to in the winter but just like clockwork it returns in late spring each year. It is the only one of the species I see here. On another note, there is a Townsend Solitaire who just returned to the garden this fall and calls out early every morning. We greet each other daily and it’s become a tradition. Thanks for looking. Bighorn Sheep, Orilla Verde Recreation Area

Bighorn Sheep, in the Orilla Verde Recreation Area in the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument. What a fantastic afternoon the the National Monument following a herd of bighorn rams. The double sun stars are created by a rocky protrusion, splitting the sun in two. The bighorn sheep are posing on the ledges that they use to traverse the cliff faces. I was able to line up all the elements to accent the precarious terrain they inhabit. Thanks for looking. G

Harvest Moon Rise, Sangre De Cristos, NM

Harvest moon rise, over the Sangre De Cristos, mountains illuminating the clouds. This is the view from our driveway in San Cristobal on the night of Friday the 13th. I had meant to post it on the day, but…! So here it is. The warm color is from a forest fire controlled burn in the foothills and the smokey haze affected the color of light in this scene. Happy harvesting and thanks for looking. G

Saint Francis, Ranchos De Taos.

Saint Francis, Ranchos De Taos. Here’s a two for one of the Saint Francis Church (San Francisco de Asis) arguably the most photographed church in the USA. It is one of the most supported and well kept churches in New Mexico. It has been photographed by Ansel Adams, Paul Strand, Laura Gilpin and many more including yours truly! The most well known is probably Georgia O’Keeffe’s painting. I made this image in a rain puddle a couple of days ago. As I’ve said before, “I can’t resist a puddle!” Made on an iPhone 7 Plus. Thanks for looking. G

Shapes And Colors, GMC Truck

Shapes and colors, GMC truck, Overland Ranch, Taos New Mexico. Spent sometime here on a photo tour yesterday. I made some cell phone snaps and some abstract studies. I have a notion to return with the big camera and make some extremely large images of small details in the many shapes. I’ve investigated this and numerous other classic trucks and autos, it’s about time to do it. I’m going to check out the harvest moon rise this evening, as I’ve done for many years. Here’s last years image and one from October 7, 2006.  Thanks for looking. G

Harvest Moon Rising, Sangre de Cristo Mountains

Harvest moon rising, Sangre de Cristo Mountains, New Mexico. A great photo tour today. Thank you Mike. When I got home this was the view of the shimmering, shining, harvest moon rise… out the kitchen window. It will be full tomorrow night. Thanks for looking. G

Pueblo Bonito, Chaco Canyon, NM

Pueblo Bonito, Chaco Culture National Historical Park, Chaco Canyon, NM. Over the months I’ve spent in Chaco Canyon it has got under my skin. If you’ve been to Chaco you’ll know what I mean. If you have yet to visit this place I think you’ll find it might do the same to you. Pueblo Bonito is the largest of the pueblo houses in Chaco. Thanks for looking. G
