Townsend’s Solitaire, Winter Ash Tree

Townsend’s Solitaire in the winter ash tree in the garden, San Cristobal NM. I spent some time outside on the deck this afternoon. The feeders were overrun with Dark-eyed Juncos, a few Sparrows, half a dozen American Crows, Mourning Doves and a Lewis’ Woodpecker. The woodpecker returned after a month absence to retrieve the seeds it had stashed in the cottonwood tree. This Townsend’s Solitaire, normally sits in the tops of the trees and sings it’s song. Today it sat on the lower branches for a few snaps. It then returned to the top of a juniper tree. I’ve never seen it feeding at one of the feeders. Thanks for looking. G

Venus, Crescent Moon Conjunction, San Cristobal

Venus, crescent moon conjunction, during a break in the storm today, from San Cristobal, NM. It was a beutiful sight to see as the clouds parted and the sky cleared. Right now the snow is coming down all soft and fluffy, the kind you want to catch on your tongue. Thanks for looking. G

Rio Chama Bosque, Abiquiu, NM

Rio Chama Bosque, Cerrito Blanco, Abiquiu, NM. In the bosque (woods) along the Rio Chama. It’s a beautiful location and I feel unencumbered, yet cloistered by the arching trees. Their branches bend and bow in all directions, creating a natural cathedral like feeling. Hmm… think I’ll stay here awhile. I made this image on December 29, 2017. It doesn’t look like it but it was quite cold this day, but not as cold as it’s going to be here in San Cristobal on December 29, 2019. We’re expecting -2º rising to about 22º for a high. Brrrr! Thanks for looking. Stay warm wherever you are. G

Pink Adobe, Colorado State Line

Pink adobe on the Colorado State Line. This abandoned adobe, abode looks like it was a warm and inviting home at one point in time. In the town of Garcia this building is tucked away across a field nestled under the big cottonwoods. Across the state line, in New Mexico, is the town of Costilla, mostly indistinguishable from Gracia, although I suspect most locals would disagree. Thanks for looking. G
