Red Barn, San Luis Valley, Milky Way

Red Barn in the San Luis Valley under the Milky Way yesterday evening. Sitting in a chair, tripod set up, a pleasing composition, waiting for it to get dark. It was a beautiful sky after the clouds and fire haze cleared. Half the fun of doing night photography is being out under pristine skies enjoying the peace and tranquility, a pack of coyotes far off in the distance, their chatter echoing across the valley, and a nice cup of tea. If nothing else, landscape photography keeps me in the outdoors, in nature and good company. Thanks for looking. G

Starry Night, Satellite, Rio Grande, Pilar, New Mexico

Starry night in the Rio Grande Gorge, Pilar, New Mexico. I was setting up a composition for the milky way over the gorge and river when I spotted a satellite in one frame, so I quickly kept exposing shots and made a composite of Elon Musk’s Starlink satellites cruising across the skies here in NM. Personally, I think there is enough junk in space, plus, Mr. Musk plans to add some 80,000 satellites to the junk already up there. It’s quite a controversy among astronomers. Almost every frame that night had some man made object coursing across the sky. Thanks for looking. G

Saint Thomas The Apostle, Abiquiu, New Mexico

Saint Thomas (Santo Tomas) the Apostle Church, in Abiquiu, New Mexico. On the road in Abiquiu yesterday I came across this scene. Always read the small print. I’ll say no more! As always thanks for looking. G

Bighorn Sheep Rams, Drinking, Gorge Rim Road

Bighorn Sheep Rams drinking from a recent rain puddle on the Rio Grande Gorge west rim road. We all need water. These guys, two of the eight rams I saw, crossed the road in front of me and drank from the muddy puddle. I’ve added a couple of close ups below. As always, thanks for looking. G

Orilla Verde, Rio Grande, Fall Colors

Orilla Verde Recreation Area in the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument. Fall colors were evident yesterday evening during the sunset before the stars came out. I was on my way to photograph the Milky Way with the river and reflections. Things didn’t turn out as planned but the lead up and time spent out under the New Mexico skies made it all worthwhile. Thanks for looking. G

San Antonio Church, Valdez, New Mexico

San Antonio Church, Valdez, New Mexico. Back to gorgeous skies and quintessential New Mexico scenes. The little village (would be more of a hamlet in Britain), and the church of San Antonio, nestled in the valley along the banks of the Rio Hondo. So much subject matter here in this area lends itself to black and white photography. Thanks for looking. G

Fall Colors, Kebler Pass Road, Colorado

Fall colors, Kebler Pass Road, Colorado. Not far from Lost Lake, outside of Crested Butte, off the Kebler Pass Road to Paonia is this wonderful sight. The shape of things to come very soon in this area. The tips of the cottonwoods and aspen are starting to show their colors. I’m looking forward to it. I’m very fortunate to live where I do. So much of what I love and photograph is in my big back yard. Thanks for looking. G

Lost Lake, Ripples, Reflections, Colorado

Lost Lake, ripples and reflections, in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Reflections of the sun setting on the red rocks and the last glow of light on the mountain peak, with a hint of blue the pale sky, surrounded by reflections of the grey rocks and shadows. Lost Lake is a constantly changing work of art. Thanks for looking. G

Red Squirrel, Back Garden, Boulder Colorado

Red Squirrel in the back garden, Boulder Colorado. I had the pleasure of watching this bold fellow tearing up and down, leaping between trees, foraging for whatever it was wanting. It was a mesmerizing half hour one Sunday morning looking through the long lens. Thanks for looking. G
