San Francisco De Asis

San Francisco De Asis sculpture at the Saint Francis Church, Ranchos de Taos, NM. I’m always on the lookout for another angle at this very familiar location. I was showing a photo tour client how to explore something more than the standard shots at this adobe building. This is what I came up with on this trip. Depending on the time of year these two features align. Invariably and because of my familiarity with the time of day and lighting, it is almost always possible to find something new, whether a new angle, or a new feeling that speaks to me in a scene. Revisiting the San Francisco de Asis Church hundreds of times over the thirty five years since I first set eyes on it, has given me a greater understanding and affinity for the place and every aspect it embodies.   Thanks for looking. Saint Francis Church Pigeons And Gas Meter

Saint Francis Church, Ranchos de Taos, with pigeons and “the” gas meter. More often than not the gas meter is left out by painters (paintshopping), or erased in a photo application. but left in here, by yours truly, for authenticity. The rocks ringing the building are to stop people parking too close to the walls and buttresses. They make for a nice foreground contrast and a place to sit. Thanks for looking. G

White Cross, Shadows, Saint Francis Church

White cross and shadows at the Saint Francis Church, in Ranchos de Taos. If you’ve downloaded my July Journal of Photography then you will be familiar with this image. It’s a photo from many years ago that had eluded me until the last few weeks. I like the simplicity of much of the architecture I find here in New Mexico. If I never leave this state, I doubt I’d ever run out of subject matter. Thanks for looking. G

Hollyhock At The Saint Francis Church

Hollyhock at the Saint Francis Church, Ranchos de Taos. The hollyhocks are hanging on and still blooming. The seeds on some plants are ready to start collecting in numerous locations around town. I’m going to plant in the garden for next year. Thanks for looking. G

San Francisco De Asis, Journal Of Photography

San Francisco de Asis. Journal of Photography of the Saint Francis Church, Ranchos de Taos, NM. My latest piece gathered from images made over the years past. I have so many images of this most beautiful adobe building it was hard to choose the ones I did. So … some left for another volume later. Clicking on the picture will take you to the PDF download. Enjoy and as always, thanks for looking. G

Blue Portal, San Francisco de Asis, Church

Blue portal with blue skies at the San Francisco de Asis Church, Ranchos de Taos. People ask me all the time whether I get bored visiting the same locations. My answer, “No”. I always find something new and I get to share it with other photographers. And the other question… is the sky really that blue? “Yes!” It’s my pleasure to show new locations to visiting photographers and those I’ve made multiple trips with. Visiting previous locations multiple times almost always reveals new angles and vistas. Thanks for looking. G

Reflections At The San Francisco de Asis Church

Reflections at the San Francisco de Asis (St. Francis) Church, Ranchos de Taos New Mexico. I made this image on a photo tour this weekend with my wonderful guests from Minnesota. Early in the morning, before the groundsman/caretaker swept up the puddles following this Fridays rain, the reflections in the water amongst the flagstones were plentiful and offered up a multitude of photo opportunities. Thanks for looking. G

Reflection At The Saint Francis Church

Reflection at the Saint Francis Church … a fall morning after the rain. Got down on my knees and made this image shortly before the caretaker came along and swept up the puddles. Got to be the early bird to beat the caretaker. Thanks for looking. G
