Blue Sky, Last Leaves, Hopewell Lake

Blue sky with last leaves on one aspen tree near Hopewell Lake, NM. I love the simplicity of this composition, where the bare branches appear to be about to let go of the remaining few leaves. I’ve photographed the last leaves on many trees over the years. I feel there’s a certain melancholy to this scene, although the blue sky and golden leaves present a pretty picture. I think I’ll call this one, “Before the fall”. Thanks for looking. G

Soaring, Snow Geese, Bosque Del Apache

Soaring with Snow Geese in the Bosque Del Apache, National Wildlife Refuge NM. Last one from the refuge for a while. Sometimes I come across an image from the archives that intrigues me, like the two previous images of the heron. The snow geese, lit by morning sunlight, against a quintessential blue, New Mexico sky, brought me directly back to the moment when I made this image. I’ll keep returning to the Bosque del Apache in actuality and memory. Thanks for looking. G

Curly’s Cabin, Ghost Ranch, NM

Curly’s Cabin, Ghost Ranch, NM. Gorgeous skies over Curly’s Cabin used it the movie “City Slickers”. Dropped in Ghost Ranch today. I’ve been here many times but today the clouds were exceptional. The cabin was glowing and the sky was blue, like only in New Mexico. Thanks for looking. G

Tall Aspens, Italianos Trail, Columbine Hondo Wilderness

Tall Aspens, Italianos Trail, Columbine Hondo Wilderness. It’s looking quite gorgeous in the mountains of northern New Mexico. I made a short hike up here yesterday with my son. It was a beautiful morning hike in cool temperatures, under crystal clear blue skies. The tall aspens we are standing under has it’s own very unique quality of light. I never knew this phenomenon until I moved to New Mexico and stood in a grove like this one. Thanks for looking. G

Blue Portal, San Francisco de Asis, Church

Blue portal with blue skies at the San Francisco de Asis Church, Ranchos de Taos. People ask me all the time whether I get bored visiting the same locations. My answer, “No”. I always find something new and I get to share it with other photographers. And the other question… is the sky really that blue? “Yes!” It’s my pleasure to show new locations to visiting photographers and those I’ve made multiple trips with. Visiting previous locations multiple times almost always reveals new angles and vistas. Thanks for looking. G

Fajada Butte Landing Zone Chaco Canyon

Fajada Butte landing zone Chaco Culture National Historical Park. Playing with the shadows on the picnic table under the ramada, a welcome respite from the hot sun. I put the iPhone 7 down and saw this little view on the LCD. and snapped a couple of shots. Thanks for looking. G
