GMC Truck Cab Shadows

GMC truck cab shadows, in El Prado New Mexico. Over the years, these trucks have provided loads of photo ops for many photographers and there’s always a new angle if one looks for it. Sadly their demise has been advanced by the proliferation of bombardments of rocks. Still… it will make for plenty more photo ops. The hornets are guaranteed a home for many years more. Thanks for looking. G

Cottonwoods, Red Willows And A Vulture

Cottonwoods, red willows and a vulture in Arroyo Hondo, New Mexico. After I made images in the valley yesterday, I headed home. Cresting the hill, above the valley I had another view looking back at this cozy little scene which was graced, momentarily, by a Turkey Vulture. As the sun goes down the Turkey Vultures head to a communal roost in large cottonwoods. There is a group who spend the summer in a tree on Kit Carson Road in downtown Taos. Links below. Thanks for looking. G

Rio Grande In The Orilla Verde Recreation Area

The Rio Grande in the Orilla Verde Recreation Area in the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument. Looking upstream from the Taos Junction Bridge to Sunset Rapid and the confluence of the Rio Grande and the Rio Pueblo. This location is a favorite of mine. The river makes for a really nice leading line. Thanks for looking. G

Spring Photo Tours/Workshops

Spring Photo Tours/Workshops. I just completed more than a dozen trips with photographers, sharing with them the locations I know and love. It has been a great pleasure working with so many photographers with varied, personal visions, on composition and lighting, in landscapes, nature, architecture and an occasional portrait. Below are images of a few of my guests.

Blossoms For Earth Day, San Cristobal

Blossoms for Earth Day, San Cristobal, NM. Blossoms for Earth Day, San Cristobal, NM. So I thought I’d post something pretty today for Earth Day, April 22, 2018. The trees are tempted to bust out even though the night time temps are still quite cool.

And a quote … Thanks for looking. G

And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom”.  Anaïs Nin

Elizabethtown Homestead, #2

Elizabethtown Homestead, #2 at the old “ghost” town site in northern New Mexico. For the past few years I’ve been making images of the abandoned homesteads around this area and over the border in southern Colorado. The collection is growing, and as these treasures are now beginning to vanish, I’ve put together a collection of images made over the last couple of decades that are now “gone”. More of those later. This homestead in Elizabethtown appears to be pulling apart and heading in two separate directions. The cemetery is just up the hill to the right. Thanks for looking. G

Canada Geese, Eagle Nest, New Mexico

Canada Geese, on the banks of a catchment pond, Eagle Nest, New Mexico. We took a drive today around the Enchanted Circle, at times, in blizzard conditions. Following lunch and a pint in Angel Fire, on the drive home, this pair of geese popped up on the embankment of a catchment pond. They have a propensity for popping up. Fun day! Thanks for looking. G

Holman Presbyterian Mission “Chapel School”

Holman Presbyterian Mission Chapel School. So I thought I’d share this image, the feature of the last couple of days images, in it’s fabulous state of decay on the road to Mora New Mexico. I’ve been visiting here for years and it’s plain to see the rapid changes that occur when the locations are left to the elements and nature has its way with them. Thanks for looking. G
