Morning Bobcat, Bosque Del Apache

Morning Bobcat, Bosque Del Apache, San Antonio, New Mexico. This cat has nothing to say or do at this moment. Sit, wait, warm up, wait for the guys with the cameras to get lost. Wait some more, then mosey off into the bushes. Then we left. Flash back to last December with my good friend Jon. Thanks for looking. G

On The Plains, Eastern New Mexico

On the plains, Eastern New Mexico. Photographing landscapes out here in this sparsely peopled region, would benefit from a little vernacular architecture, but only a little, in order to balance the shot. Lacking that, a tree and a distant peak will suffice. The skies go on forever and are constantly morphing before the eyes. I think I have spent past life times, if there is such a thing, on the plains. It all feels so very familiar. Thanks for looking. G

Old New Mexico Shattered Wall With Tin

Old New Mexico shattered wall with tin. I’ll always stop for an image like this. Sometimes the whole building is worthy of a shot, more often than not the image is in the details. Abandoned buildings are a magnet for me, where ever I go. I mean, look at that crack, how could I resist. Thanks for looking. G

Shadows, San Rafael, La Cueva, New Mexico

San Rafael, La Cueva, New Mexico. Shadows in the light of darkness. We had some good fortune last week while on a photo tour Easter Sunday in La Cueva, NM at the church of San Rafael when a lady pulled up and parked in our shot. Before we had time to get upset and complain, she was already out of her truck and inviting us to see the interior of the church. It turned out to be a fitting moment. The day was forehead reddening hot outside. Inside, the welcoming, cool moistness was palpable. The light through the windows cast shadows on the deep adobe walls. The moment, lasting about ten minutes was a poignant respite for me and my guests from Minnesota. We reflected on the continual fight between light and darkness, at least when religion is involved, before we moved on to the next location. Thanks for looking. G

Early Morning Shadows, Downtown Taos

Early morning shadows on the adobe buildings in downtown Taos, accented with the ubiquitous blue trimmed window. Nothing like adobe buildings in the early morning, high desert light, to inspire an image. Thanks for looking. G

Under the Cottonwoods, Abiquiu, NM

Under the cottonwoods, Abiquiu, NM. This International truck has been parked in this location for a number of years. Drove by there on a photo tour last week and it was gone, possibly sold. I made this image on a photo tour in February. I superimposed three images from that location to get this look, the truck overlaid in a shot of its own rust and patina and a third of the trees above. Thanks for looking. G

Urban Aspens #2 Santa Fe, NM

Urban Aspens #2 Santa Fe, NM in the Rail Yard district. I thought the bare aspens would show my increased, hurried, anticipation of the greening of spring. I certainly like the way the stark bark works with the other elements. Thanks for looking. G

New Mexico Culture, Las Trampas Church

New Mexico Culture, Las Trampas Church, San José de Gracia on the High Road to Taos. A continual restoration and mudding project. One of the most beautiful and possibly the most authentic adobe mission churches in all of New Mexico. I visit this location about half a dozen times a month and I always see something new. I am always glad to see how many people get out of their vehicles to gaze on and explore this historic building. I am surprised to see how many people cruise into the parking lot, point their cameras out of the car window, and drive away having bagged another location on the bucket list. I am evening more surprised how many people pull into the parking area and leave, experiencing no further encounter with this New Mexico cultural icon, on the historic mountain highway route to Taos. Ah well… each to their own. Thanks for looking. G

Landscape Of The Night, March Blue Moon

Landscape of the night. On March 31st, the full blue moon rose over the Sangre de Cristo mountains, the backdrop to our village of San Cristobal, NM. I love that we can step outside on any evening, look up to the sky and gaze on the shifting landscape of the night. Thanks for looking. G
