Crescent Moon One Percent Waxing

Crescent Moon one percent waxing over the Volcanic Plateau west of Taos, New Mexico. It took me a moment to see it, actually quite a long moment. Then, as the clouds parted, there it was shining like the day. Thanks for looking. G

First Snow On The Sangre De Cristos, NM

First snow on the Sangre de Cristo mountains, northern New Mexico. Always an exciting moment when the clouds lift and the sun shines a spotlight on the snow covered peaks in the Sangre de Cristo mountains. This evening in San Cristobal. Thanks for looking. G

Fall In Valle Escondido, NM

Fall in Valle Escondido, Sangre de Cristo Mountains, NM. Well, today it snowed in the mountains. It was a lot warmer on this day last week than the cold damp this morning. I’m not really complaining, we need all the moisture we can get. But, the cold and wet was quite a shock to the system. Thanks for looking. G

Osprey, Rio Costilla Park, NM

Osprey, Rio Costilla Park, northern NM. I’ve seen this bird here a couple of times over the last few weeks. Today it played tag with us on the Rio Costilla. At one point we lost sight of it. As we drove west, scrutinizing the cliffs, the high sun suddenly cast this raptors shadow onto the sun roof, across the hood and down the road ahead of us. The game was back on. When we caught sight of it again it had alighted on a snag, just off camera in this shot. Soon thereafter, something other than us grabbed it’s attention, which was when I made this image. Thank you so much for your attention. G

Chama River, Abiquiu, New Mexico

Chama River, Abiquiu, New Mexico. Great weather for a trip out to Abiquiu on this beautiful fall day. The clouds were moving swiftly casting their dramatic shadows on the landscape. We stopped in at one of the studios on the Abiquiu Studio Tour and visited numerous familiar locations that we love. Below is one of our favorites in the village of Abiquiu. Thanks for looking. G

Hillside Aspens, Cumbres Pass

Hillside Aspens, Cumbres Pass, Colorado. It was great to see this grove of aspens at it’s peak a week ago, splendid against our stunning southwest sky. We went back a couple of days later when the leaves were more sparse. Conditions in the mountains change rapidly from day to day. Below you’ll find some links I pulled up from previous trips over the Cumbres Pass. Thanks for looking. G

Graffiti Art On the High Road To Taos

Graffiti art in Chamisal on the High Road to Taos. Well, someone’s idea of art. I must admit, the lighting made the colorful graffiti ‘pop’ against the dramatic sky. Thanks for looking. G

Chimayo Holy Chile

Chimayo Holy Chile, near the Santuario de Chimayo, affectionately known as the “Lourdes of America.” I document New Mexicana wherever I go. No reason for further comment on this scene. Thanks for looking. G

Santo Tomas Church, Ojo Sarco, NM

Santo Tomas Church in the  Ojo Sarco Valley, northern New Mexico. Making images of the dilapidated building across the dirt road from this church. We got some welcome relief from the midday sun, under the portal roof, though open to the elements. We enjoyed the weathered, decrepit boards and the spaces between them created by time. Including them in a composition with the church of Santo Tomas seemed logical and adequately portrayed our experience. Thanks for looking. G

Blumenschein Home, Ledoux Street

Blumenschein Home ladder, Ledoux Street, Taos, New Mexico. The wall is adobe, made from local mud and straw. This ladder, at the east studio wall of the Blumenschein Home, ascending to the roof and beyond, is an iconic symbol of southwest architecture. Thanks for looking. G
