Kiln Sticks, Blanca Sawmill, Colorado

Kiln drying sticks, at the Blanca Sawmill, Colorado. These kiln sticks are part of a kiln drying operation I’ve had the privilege to photograph over the last couple of years. This kiln can dry 200,000 board feet of green 2×4 and 2×6 lumber in 90 hours. The lumber mill supplies studs to the building industry around the west. The lumber comes from the Blanca Ranch on the slopes of the Blanca Massif in southern Colorado. Thanks for looking. G

Santa Teresita De Jesus Chapel, El prado, NM

Santa Teresita de Jesus Chapel, El prado, NM. Driving by a few weeks ago, I just had to pull over and snap this image. Here’s another image I made in the winter of 1989 that I posted it on my website on a winter’s day in March 2007 and funnily enough it looked like this today when the clouds lifted off the mountain. Bright white snow covered peaks. Thanks for looking. G

Rock Bush, Plaza Blanca, New Mexico

Rock, Bush, Plaza Blanca, Abiquiu, New Mexico. Flash floods whisk through the narrow slot canyon, down arroyos, through culverts and in to the Rio Chama. This rock stands firm with it’s head dress glowing in the afternoon, winter sunlight. All around, the debris from flash flooding has stripped the bark off the few cottonwoods and deposited brush and rocks in many of the nooks and crannies in the wash. Yesterday was a good day for a walk is this beautiful landscape of New Mexico. Thanks for looking. G

1940 Packard 160 Super 8

1940 Packard 160 Super 8 … “What is the classic auto in the photo of the day, January 25, 2019 on Highway 160 in Fort Garland, Colorado.” Thanks to all who sent me suggestions, and to my friend, Ron, for the confirmation and link to the 1940 Packard 160 Super 8. Thanks for looking and answers. G

Ice Road, San Acacio, Colorado

Ice road in San Acacio, Colorado. Just over a week ago it was 16 degrees fahrenheit at 3pm and the hoar frost hadn’t budged on the trees. Today, in the southern San Luis Valley, it was 47 degrees fahrenheit. Quite a shift from this ice road skating rink to a sloppy muddy mess. We’ll take the moisture and won’t complain too much. Thanks for looking. G

Southern Rocky Mountains Super Moon Rise

Southern Rocky Mountains winter solstice super moon rise. I didn’t post this image at the time since the winter solstice full wolf moon eclipse was a more pertinent image for the photo of the day. Prior to the lunar eclipse that evening, this is how the moon looked, as it rose in the east, over the snow capped peaks of the Sangre de Cristo range, of the southern Rocky Mountains. Thanks for looking. G
