San Francisco de Asis, Moonrise, Ranchos de Taos, NM. Sometimes the elements come together where one would like them to. Photographed and painted by many artists, I never tire of another visit to this mission church south of Taos. A big plus when no one else is there. Can you feel the peace and solitude? San Jose de Gracia de Las Trampas, on the High Road to Taos, NM. On a little safari today, we stopped at the mission church and set up to photograph the adobe building with the fast-moving clouds. We spent a few hours in the location waiting as the clouds built and disappeared before our eyes, only to billow up again and vanish once more. Eventually, they returned and became thick, heavy storm clouds and the cold drove us back to Dixon on the Rio Embudo for coffee and snacks. Thanks for looking. G
Saint Francis Church, Ranchos de Taos, NM. The San Francisco de Asis Church under a lavender, twilight sky. Soft shadows give this building a gentle look. From across the street you can also see one of the two belfry crosses. The two towers aren’t equal in height therefore only one cross is visible. Well they maybe equal, but the foundation slopes to the south making them uneven. Stay soft and gentle and be safe out there. Thanks for looking. G
Talpa Chapel, Black Cross, Clouds, Sky. The chapel of Nuestra Señora de San Juan de los Lagos Talpa, New Mexico. Thirty five years ago I used to live very near to this chapel and was able to hear the bell ring for various masses and feast days. I heard similar sounding bells in many small European villages. We are not that distant from our cousins, I can hear it in the bells. Tomorrow I’m heading up the high road to Taos. A photo tour trip on the high road was guaranteed at least 6 times a month before Covid 19. Tomorrow will be my first trip on the high road since the first week of March this year. I’m looking forward to slightly cooler temperatures and fresh mountain air. I’ll drop in at this location for old times sake. Thank you for looking. G
Guadalupe window, shadows at the Santa Cruz Chapel in Ojo Caliente, NM. On a hot day like this one it’s very pleasant to stand in the shadows and cool down, watching the light work on the scene. Thanks for looking. G
Chapel, Santa Cruz de Ojo Caliente, historic site, New Mexico. I often share my thoughts with my clients on religion, it’s core conflict and how to represent the fight between light and darkness in a picture. Santa Rosa de Lima, just off the highway in Abiquiu, New Mexico. I like the feeling being surround by sun-baked, crumbling adobe walls, light filling in the shadows. An afternoon storm, brings cool heavy rains, sometimes a flash flood, eroding arroyos, canyons, and these old adobe bricks. Thanks for looking. G
