Hillside Aspens, Cumbres Pass

Hillside Aspens, Cumbres Pass, Colorado. It was great to see this grove of aspens at it’s peak a week ago, splendid against our stunning southwest sky. We went back a couple of days later when the leaves were more sparse. Conditions in the mountains change rapidly from day to day. Below you’ll find some links I pulled up from previous trips over the Cumbres Pass. Thanks for looking. G

Tall Aspens, Italianos Trail, Columbine Hondo Wilderness

Tall Aspens, Italianos Trail, Columbine Hondo Wilderness. It’s looking quite gorgeous in the mountains of northern New Mexico. I made a short hike up here yesterday with my son. It was a beautiful morning hike in cool temperatures, under crystal clear blue skies. The tall aspens we are standing under has it’s own very unique quality of light. I never knew this phenomenon until I moved to New Mexico and stood in a grove like this one. Thanks for looking. G

Tree Hugging, Tree Style

Tree hugging, tree style in Garcia Park, New Mexico. Every time I go out in nature, I find some new element that makes me smile. Natures ornaments. Thanks for looking. G

Aspens, Conejos Valley, Colorado

Aspens, in the Conejos Valley, Colorado. Been out cruising the area for peak colors and found some places that are getting there. Heading out on a photo tour again tomorrow for more. Stay tuned. Thanks for looking. G

Aspen Road, Garcia Park

Aspen road, Garcia Park in the Carson National Forest, New Mexico. The backlighting sets the colors off well but there is still plenty of color to come over the next few weeks. Every day will amount to an “aspencade”. We’ll be checking for stands of color “going off” on the hills and mountainside around Taos, northern New Mexico and southern Colorado. The red scrub oak is already accenting the valleys and arroyos. Soon it will be the mighty cottonwoods along the Rio Grande and it’s tributaries. Then all we’ll need is the scent of cedar and piñon smoke in the air in order to round out this little bit of perfection. Thanks for looking. G

Cow Elk Valle Vidal, NM

Cow Elk in the aspens and long grass in Valle Vidal, NM. The day before the Carson National Forest in northern New Mexico was closed due to the extreme fire danger, this cow elk emerged from the aspen grove, only to disappear again into the trees. A brief moment indelibly etched in memory. Thanks for looking. G

Urban Aspens #2 Santa Fe, NM

Urban Aspens #2 Santa Fe, NM in the Rail Yard district. I thought the bare aspens would show my increased, hurried, anticipation of the greening of spring. I certainly like the way the stark bark works with the other elements. Thanks for looking. G

In The Winter Aspens

In the winter aspens on the high road to Taos, New Mexico. Before golden hour; before dawn, in the waking twilight, the winter aspens breathe in the darkness. Thanks for looking. G
