Make My Day! 10-29-2025.

Hello from New Mexico. This week, a few images that make my day, taken here in the land of enchantment.

The Rio Chama Overlook can always make my day.

Just a few weeks later, the Rio Chama, in its full fall splendor, becomes a living masterpiece, capturing the essence of autumn in all its glory.

As I wander through this enchanting grove, surrounded by the rustling leaves, earthy aromas of autumn fill the air, invigorating my senses. The scent of the forest floor, mingled with the cool breeze, evokes a sense of nostalgia and wonder, making each moment a feast for the soul.

Aspen trunks and leaves – a superimposed creation.

Not so spectacular from my driveway due to a haze of brush fire smoke, as some previous comets, such as Comet Neowise a few years ago. But I had to give Comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) a shot!

Photographing Malachi Tsoodlie at the Indian Market in Santa Fe made my day fifteen years ago and again recently when I printed the photo in black and white. Soon it will hang on my wall, and make my day for a third time.

As always, thanks for looking. Have a great week. G

La Luna, Earth Shine, Old Cottonwood Tree

La Luna with earthshine, framed by our old cottonwood tree in the field. This tree, half alive and half dead is a hang out for many species of birds who frequent the valley. They have an excellent view of the deck and hence the bird feeders. Last night when the moon came out they’d already left their perches or they would have seen this beautiful sight. Thanks for looking in too. G

Taos Mountain, Red Willows, Cloud

Taos Mountain, red willows, clouds. Taos Mountain is stunning in all seasons and light. As I’m not making too many trips out, this image is from spring 2018. Thanks for looking. G

Cottonwoods, Aspens, Mountains, San Cristobal Valley

Cottonwoods, Aspens, Mountains, San Cristobal Valley. It’s all about the light and I like to focus on any scene that lives up to that phrase. Here in northern New Mexico the light is everything. This scene I’ve photographed many times always catches my eye as I drive by on my way home. Thanks for looking. G

Red Willow Cottonwood, Arroyo Hondo

Red Willow, Cottonwood, Arroyo Hondo. On a snowy New Mexico afternoon we took a drive around the neighborhood. The red willows were glowing warm along an acequia (irrigation ditch) that runs through the valley. The day was shrouded mostly in shades of grey, until we came across this scene. I love where we live. We get to drive through scenery like this on our commute. Thanks for looking. G

Photo Touring, Northern New Mexico

Photo touring, on the road in the Valle Vidal, Northern New Mexico. My long time best friend visited this week and we spent the days traipsing around the mountains and valleys of this area. This was a particularly nice day at 10,000 feet where the aspens and some cottonwoods had the fall colors covered. I hope it’s beautiful where you are and thanks for looking. G

Taos Mountain, Cottonwood, Willows

Sunset on our beautiful Taos Mountain, Cottonwoods and Willows. Going to keep it short this evening and revel in this gorgeous sunset from one of our favorite locations. Come and visit and I’ll show you the sights that inspire us locals and make for a great image also! Thanks for looking. G

Arroyo Hondo Valley, Evening Light

Arroyo Hondo Valley, evening light. It makes sense that the village of Arroyo Hondo is in this gorgeous valley if for no other reason than the beautiful cottonwoods, mountains and the light. The village is just beyond the cottonwoods to the right. I frequently check out this view on the drive home or when heading into town. Thanks for looking. G

Stormy Skies, Taos Mountain

Stormy skies and Taos Mountain feature in this familiar view of the mountain and cottonwoods in El Prado, NM. I like the eyes created by patches of sunlight on the mountain looking back at me. Thanks for looking. G

Valley Cottonwoods This Evening

Valley cottonwoods this evening in San Cristobal. What a difference a week makes. It’s the light that really makes it special, so I turned around about a mile down the road and went back to this favorite spot. It’s not always perfect but being present can make it so. Thanks for looking. G
