Taos Mountain Evening Light

Taos Mountain evening light. The light was changing rapidly on the Sangre de Cristo mountains as I watched from the car driving home. The clouds were moving fast. I pulled over and made four images to create this panorama, out of the window. This was the only moment I caught before the big cloud filled in the foreground. The light, the clouds, me, the camera and this fleeting moment. Click. Thanks for looking. G

Columbine Hondo Wilderness Rainbow

Columbine Hondo Wilderness Rainbow. There was a moment this evening when I suspected a rainbow but we were also hoping for a significant, almost full, moon rise. So we made a drive into the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, under the waning light of a brooding New Mexico sky. There was a rainbow, it wasn’t huge, but on the drive through the Carson National Forest the landscape was beautiful and damp, the hills, for a moment reminded me of Wales. The rain diminished for a couple of hours since then. It’s back now, pounding on the steel roof and sparkling in the porch light. The air is fresh and a wonderful cool breeze is passing through the hallways in the house. I’m optimistic I’ll still see the moon. Thanks for looking. G

South Rim Canyon de Chelly, Arizona

South Rim, Canyon de Chelly, Arizona. Beautiful soft evening light on the canyon this evening. The lack of water doesn’t seem to be hurting the cottonwoods down there. Thanks for looking. G

Cottonwoods, Red Willows And A Vulture

Cottonwoods, red willows and a vulture in Arroyo Hondo, New Mexico. After I made images in the valley yesterday, I headed home. Cresting the hill, above the valley I had another view looking back at this cozy little scene which was graced, momentarily, by a Turkey Vulture. As the sun goes down the Turkey Vultures head to a communal roost in large cottonwoods. There is a group who spend the summer in a tree on Kit Carson Road in downtown Taos. Links below. Spring In The Arroyo Hondo Valley

Spring in the Arroyo Hondo Valley. A beautiful drive through the Arroyo Hondo Valley this evening, just timed it right as the New Mexico sun broke open the clouds and turned on the spotlight. We live here. Thanks for looking. G

An Evening Pastoral Scene in The Meadows

An evening pastoral scene in the meadows, (El Prado) on the north side of Taos. I can always be persuaded by the quiet nature of this pastoral scene, to pull over, get out of the car, breathe in the air, soak up the atmosphere, and make an image of what I felt, not always what I see. Thanks for looking. G
