Desert Heart, Ghost Ranch

Desert heart, Ghost Ranch. Having a little fun with a piece of tree. The half a heart branch was laying there, still, as it was a year or so ago. I photographed it then as well. With nothing better to do yesterday I made this composite. Thanks for looking. G

Ghost Ranch, Abiquiu, New Mexico

Ghost Ranch, the landscape of Georgia O’Keeffe Abiquiu, New Mexico. I never ever tire of this view. If it looks familiar that’s because it has be seen in many movies. A few of the movies are “City Slickers” (the first one) along with “Silvarado” and the remake of “The Magnificent Seven” which wasn’t as magnificent as the original. Thanks for looking. G

Ghost Ranch Corral

Ghost Ranch Corral, a movie set in Abiquiu, New Mexico. A quick snap before the thunder and lightning storm hit and we had to get back in the car. Being the tallest thing out there hanging on to a tripod with a cable release is about as smart as a golfer running for cover clutching a nine iron. A beautiful day with a moment of sanity thrown in. Thanks for looking. G

Orphan Mesa Ghost Ranch NM

Orphan Mesa in the red rock country of Ghost Ranch NM. A simple composition from last year. The waning light on the scene and the softness of the sky, a gentler aspect of the usually robust landscapes of the southwest. Thanks for looking. G

Spring Photo Tours/Workshops

Spring Photo Tours/Workshops. I just completed more than a dozen trips with photographers, sharing with them the locations I know and love. It has been a great pleasure working with so many photographers with varied, personal visions, on composition and lighting, in landscapes, nature, architecture and an occasional portrait. Below are images of a few of my guests.

Georgia O’Keeffe Country, New Mexico

Georgia O’Keeffe Country, Abiquiu, and Ghost Ranch, New Mexico. I just finished a fabulous three day photo tour and workshop with a photographer from Columbus, Ohio. We spent time on the road around Taos, the High Road,  Abiquiu and Georgia O’Keefe country, followed by a day in southern Colorado. The weather totally cooperated and the image making opportunities were stunning. Thanks for looking. G

Piedra Lumbre (Shining Rock), Abiquiu, NM

Piedra Lumbre (Shining Rock), Ghost Ranch in Georgia O’Keeffe country Abiquiu, NM. I thought I would migrate from images of the snow last week to the red rocks of Ghost Ranch area. Sometimes an image with red rocks and blue skies can warm body and soul. That said I can’t wait for the next snow storm. The land could sure use it! But for now, warm bones and body in the sun feels very good. Thanks for looking. G

Piedra Lumbre (Shinning Rock), Abiquiu, NM

Piedra Lumbre (Shining Rock) Abiquiu, NM

Piedra Lumbre (Shining Rock) Land Grant in Abiquiu, NM. On a photo tour last week around Abiquiu and the Rio Chama we pulled over at a favorite location. There were many opportunities for beautiful landscape images that day, as shadows from the clouds passed over the scene. This big plant, not sure what it’s name is, made for a foreground subject that mimicked the shape of the cloud behind the red rock butte. Thanks for looking. G
