Abiquiu, Landscape, Desert Monastery Road

Abiquiu landscape from the Desert Monastery Road. Out in Georgia O’Keeffe country. Not really hers, but she bandied it around in her paintings, and you can see her former home if you stand on the slope to the right. It’s beautiful country, no wonder she settled here and made the land and nature the focus of her amazing work. Thanks for looking. G

Ghost Ranch, New Mexico

Ghost Ranch, Abiquiu, New Mexico. The landscape out here is mind blowing. It blew Georgia O’Keeffe’s mind and changed her life and many other artists before and after her. It changed my life from the first time I set eyes on this landscape 35 years ago. Thanks for looking. G

Chama River, Abiquiu, New Mexico

Chama River, Abiquiu, New Mexico. Great weather for a trip out to Abiquiu on this beautiful fall day. The clouds were moving swiftly casting their dramatic shadows on the landscape. We stopped in at one of the studios on the Abiquiu Studio Tour and visited numerous familiar locations that we love. Below is one of our favorites in the village of Abiquiu. Thanks for looking. G

Orphan Mesa Ghost Ranch NM

Orphan Mesa in the red rock country of Ghost Ranch NM. A simple composition from last year. The waning light on the scene and the softness of the sky, a gentler aspect of the usually robust landscapes of the southwest. Thanks for looking. G

Georgia O’Keeffe Country, New Mexico

Georgia O’Keeffe Country, Abiquiu, and Ghost Ranch, New Mexico. I just finished a fabulous three day photo tour and workshop with a photographer from Columbus, Ohio. We spent time on the road around Taos, the High Road,  Abiquiu and Georgia O’Keefe country, followed by a day in southern Colorado. The weather totally cooperated and the image making opportunities were stunning. Thanks for looking. G

Great Sand Dunes National Park And Preserve

Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve Colorado. Spent the day here today on a photo shoot. Spring break was happening behind us with visitors from half a dozen states on sand boards and sleds. Before us, toward the Sangre de Cristo Mountains was pure serenity of rice grass, sand and sky. Thanks for looking. G

The Rocks, The Gorge, The Mountains

The Rocks, The Gorge, The Mountains. I popped the camera into the hole in the rocks. I know this location well and loved what I saw this time where the rocks focused my attention on the closest foreground subject framing the canyon of the Rio Grande to the foothills of the Sangre de Cristos beyond. The view through the rocks, across the Rio Grande Gorge to the Sangre de Cristo Mountains beyond. Thanks for looking. G

Road Through A Fog Bow

The road through the fog bow, El Rito, north, New Mexico. Early one morning on the drive to Denver I just had to pull over and watch the fog recede and the sun begin to breathe it’s breath on the landscape. What I call a fog bow developed and added an extra element to the scene. Thanks for checking in. G

On A Photo Tour The Things You See

Overlooking the Rio Grande Gorge with a view of Taos Mountain in northern New Mexico. Although I make lots of portrait images of people, I rarely include them in a landscape composition. In this case the photographer is a photo tour client participating in the Abiquiu and Rio Chama photo tour trip. Including him in this scene, I felt, would express a sense of what it might be like to stand on the very rim of the Gorge, with a broad view across the canyon to Taos Mountain beyond. Thanks for looking. G
