Waning Crescent Moon Rising

Waning (4%) crescent moon rising over the Sangre de Cristo Mountains bright and early this morning. I was surprised to see it as there were those clouds. While I was setting up the the tripod in the driveway, the clouds moved aside revealing this sliver of the moon. It disappeared back into the clouds for another ten minutes, emerging above the linear clouds. Thanks for looking. G

You can just make out a little “earthshine” on the moons surface.

Moonrise, Sangre De Cristo Mountains, NM. The kitchen window or the deck usually work fine for a shot of the moon. This month I had to stand in the middle of the driveway (poor me) in order to line up the tree and mountain with the moon. I hope you got to see it from where ever you are. Thanks for looking. G

Lenticular Clouds, Sangre De Cristo Mountains, NM. I photographed these clouds earlier yesterday in broad daylight. They were beautiful of course but I couldn’t capture the fluid motion I felt when looking at them. So I made this image from our driveway after the sun was well and truly set and used a long exposure to show the movement, with the last light causing them to glow this way. Thanks for looking and keep looking up. This is the time of year for lenticular clouds. G

Taos Mountain, early evening light in the meadow. The cattle grazing in the long grass (wishing they were bison). The light and clouds ever changing on the unchanging presence of the mountain, made me pull over this evening on the drive home. In a brief moment later the clouds thinned, the cattle raised their heads and the light drew me on home. Thanks for looking. G

Amalia, in the Rio Costilla Valley, New Mexico. Last week’s photo tour found us surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside in northern New Mexico. The road through the Rio Costilla Valley has many places to stop and make images. On last weeks tour we stopped every few hundred yards. Sangre De Cristo Mountain foothills moon rise, from the kitchen window in San Cristobal, NM. A stunningly crystal clear evening with the glow of the moon on the aspen groves. The tree canopy, evident under the moon glow, will be gone very soon now. I’m predicting one more week of revelry in the fall colors of northern New Mexico before we call it done. There will be color in the valley and along the Rio Grande well into early November if you get a chance to visit it won’t disappoint. I hope your fall is going well and you enjoy being out in it. Aspen Light, Valle Vidal, (valley of life) in the Sangre de Cristo mountains of northern New Mexico. When the trees start to turn at this elevation yesterday, (10,000 ft) they’ll go quickly.
