El Salto Rains. I have often seen the rain falling on El Salto and Lucero Peaks when it looks like this. The peaks give scale to the columns of rain as they march steadily on in some perceptible purpose through the rock formations to the high Sangre de Cristos beyond. Thanks for looking. G
Remnants of a cornfield in the shadow of Taos Mountain. Springtime in the rockies reveals the remnants of past seasons overlaying the new, with a reminder that winter was in there somewhere as the transitory time of renewal.
A little color over the Sangre de Cristo foothills this evening from the valley here in the village San Cristobal, northern New Mexico.
Sandhill Cranes heading north. For the last couple of weeks I’ve seen and heard the Sandhill cranes overhead on their northward migration. The cranes navigate using the Rio Grande, which passes about ten miles west of us. I may be wrong in assuming this, but I like to think that by keeping the river to the west and with the snow capped peaks of the Sangre de Cristo mountains to the east, also aids in the cranes navigation. The Sandhill Crane Festival in Monte Vista, was happening last weekend, about a two hour drive from home. We didn’t have to travel that far … we only had to stop, listen and look up. Belfry, Raven, Full Moon, Garcia, Colorado. The almost full moon, a belfry cross and a raven tonight in Garcia, Colorado. We made an evening drive to watch the moon rise over the Sangre de Cristo mountains in southern Colorado. It turned out to be a beautiful evening with crisp winter light on this scene. I like to think the raven enjoyed the view too, but I doubt it. He sat, perched there, faffing the whole time.

Lenticular Clouds. I made plenty of images of this scene yesterday evening from the garden. I liked the spectacular reds, oranges and yellows of course. However, I actually prefer this exposure after the sun went down, when the light levels were much lower, and the colors more subtle with soft lavender hues. Taos Mountain meadow. This image represents the scenes we’ve seen around Taos County much of this winter. Today we made a road trip to Colorado to make images for the archive. There was so much snow there, much like this image of the Great Sand Dunes NP from January 2013. Thanks for looking.

Sunset on Taos Mountain and a little Sangre de Cristo. It was cold today, and the mountains were pristine. I made this image of the peaks on Taos Mountain at the last moment. I liked the low light levels as the colors got quite dense at that point, and the slight hint of blues and grays came through. Thanks for looking.
