Ute Mountain with the red barn and crescent moon in the San Luis Valley, Colorado. I headed north to the state line and into Colorado yesterday evening. The sun and moon were setting as I drove forty-five minutes for a shoot at the dilapidated barn. Flocks of crows went where ever crows go at night and owls took up their nightly vigil in the cottonwood snags. The holes in the barn let the dusk and moonlight in. A few stray critters dodged my tires as I ran over their tracks in the twilight. Thanks for looking. G
State Line
Horses, Together, Apart, New Mexico
Horses, together, apart, at the Colorado state line in northern New Mexico. This has nothing to do with the social distancing that we’ve become so abruptly used to. This old pony with the dreadlocks stank to high heaven. His fellow companions in the pasture seemed to be aware of it too. Space is a beautiful thing. Thanks for looking. G
Sangre De Cristo Mountain, Snows
Sangre de Cristo Mountain snows. Still a lot of snow up there a few days ago in the mountains at the New Mexico, Colorado State Line. And on a stunningly, crystal clear day for a drive during our self imposed quarantine. Home to car, to mountains and back home again. Didn’t see a soul out there, but what’s new? Thanks for looking. G
Pink Adobe, Colorado State Line
Pink adobe on the Colorado State Line. This abandoned adobe, abode looks like it was a warm and inviting home at one point in time. In the town of Garcia this building is tucked away across a field nestled under the big cottonwoods. Across the state line, in New Mexico, is the town of Costilla, mostly indistinguishable from Gracia, although I suspect most locals would disagree. Thanks for looking. G
New Mexico State Line, Off The Beaten Path
New Mexico State Line, off the beaten path in southern Colorado. On this day we switched back across the New Mexico, Colorado State Line a dozen times in as many miles. I hadn’t seen this particular Zia sun symbol or been on this road before. Besides the mosquitos and two men splitting wood logs we were the only ones out there. Here’s more on the Zia People and their sacred symbol. Thanks for looking. G
Corral On The Volcanic Plateau, New Mexico
Corral on the Volcanic Plateau, northern New Mexico. Made a drive today with my good friend and photographer R. David Marks. We scoped out some familiar locations and some new ones. It was another good day out on the road making images. Thanks for looking. G
Adobe Shadows, Costilla, NM
Adobe shadows, Costilla, NM. There are a lot of ruins in New Mexico, but this is my favorite in Costilla on the state line with Colorado. It was a pristinely clear day. The adobe was set against a deep blue sky with the light reflected off the snow filling in the shadows on the adobe walls. Oh and there is a partial moon up there in the left hand corner. Prints are available. Thanks for looking. G
