Bull Elk, Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado. Fall has definitely arrived early this year. I’d lay odds these males are in rut already. Such a wonderful time of year, and hearing the elk’s soulful bugle echoing through the mountains and canyons makes fall even more magical. Thanks for looking. G
Northern New Mexico, one epic evening sky. In celebration of my fifteen year anniversary of posting one photo every day since September 9, 2005. I started my website with a rainbow so I thought I post a rainbow, with walking rain (virga) followed literally by the most amazing sunset a few days ago. Today we have snow and cold temperatures, so I stayed in all day. My website is my visual journal, I visit often. Thank you for joining me all these years. Onward! G
Sun and fire smoke with wind across the Taos Valley and beyond. A few images from yesterday evening when smoke from Colorado, California and New Mexico filled the skies over most of the state. I had fun finding locations most of which I’m very familiar with so it wasn’t too difficult. Rather apocalyptic looking. Stay safe, be well and thanks for looking. G
Sunflowers in the San Cristobal Valley signifying the end of summer and start of fall. It’s beginning in the high desert of northern New Mexico. An arctic blast is heading our way tomorrow and Wednesday. Snow is also forecast where we live. Nothing new here or out of the ordinary. Snow can be expected, and often is expected, any time after labor day. Snow on the sunflowers should make for some nice images. Thanks for looking. G
Big Dipper with Ute Mountain in the Wild Rivers Recreation Area in the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument. The scene is lit by the moon that rose earlier tethered to Mars in the eastern sky. I’ve added a photo below. It was very peaceful after all the people looking for campsites left the area as the campgrounds are shut due to the Covid-19 health order. Thanks for looking. G
Mud Volcano plant, an abstract in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. Still traveling virtually around the west. I had to look up a few facts on Yellowstone today and got mired (sorry) in YouTube videos of the geologic features of the area and the continent in general. Fascinating stuff. I’ve added a couple more images below, one of Yellowstone Falls and one of the National Park’s famous residents. Thanks for looking. G
Yellowstone revisited, Mammoth Hot Springs, Wyoming. From a visit in 2005 when I took my children on a trip of discovery through Colorado, Wyoming and Utah. I took them out of school for two weeks in September. We had wonderful trip together, riding our bicycles through the fall colors in Crested Butte, around Yellowstone, the Tetons and Canyonlands National Parks. I swear we saw every dinosaur track and many miles of the Oregon Trail wagon wheel ruts. All kinds of wild life, except the bears and wolves, but almost every other creature. The kids loved those boardwalks skirting all the pools and running on the lake shorelines. The lack of crowds made it blissfully beautiful. Here’s one of the views above Mammoth Hot Springs and tomorrow I’ll post an abstract from the Mud Volcano. Thanks for looking. G
Corn Moon Rising, Sangre De Cristos, New Mexico. This month the full moon rose in and out of clouds. I liked this one depicting the Corn moon weaving it’s way through layers of clouds over the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo mountains where we live. The view from the deck, never disappoints, despite the cloud cover. Thanks for looking. G

Cactus on the Pueblo Alto trail in Chaco Canyon, New Mexico. There is much to see in Chaco Culture Historical Park, up, down and all points in between. If I find the photo of the piece of pottery we found near this spot I’ll post. We pick it up look and marvel at it, then put it back down where we found it for others to enjoy.
