Rio Costilla Creek, Rio Costilla Park, New Mexico. Had a fun time photographing along the Rio Costilla on a three day photo tour last week on our way through to the Valle Vidal. The river was running with gusto so we had lots of photo ops. I made this image on my iPhone. Thanks for looking. G

From under the ramada, Fajada Butte, Chaco Culture National Historical Park. When I visit Chaco Canyon I always like to return to this spot, in the shade of the poles and look out upon Fajada Butte. I often make it my last stop before leaving the canyon, to sit and gaze out at this landscape; to rest easy in the shade, perhaps to feel, what stirred the souls of those long ago. I’m very fortunate that I have been able to spend many months over the years in this place. There are many stories as to the why and wherefores of Chaco. All I know, in this place, is peace and serenity. Thanks for looking. G

Storm clouds over the Rio Grande from the Lobatos Bridge, Colorado. It’s been dry for a long time, which made the sight of these heavy clouds very welcome. Behind us was another system and the two seemed destined to clash directly over head. Standing on an old steel bridge where the Rio Grande Gorge begins, with tripods, felt like we were tempting providence. We headed south in the opposite direction and avoided hail and a heavy dust storm. Thanks for looking. G
Slot Canyon, in Plaza Blanca, Abiquiu, New Mexico. This morning in the slot canyon at Plaza Blanca, with the sun bouncing off the white ground and formations, filling in the underside of overhanging rocks with golden light. Thanks for looking. G
Truck parts at the Overland Ranch, El Prado NM. As some friend of mine (and you know who you are) termed images like this as “What the photo?” I spotted this little vignette and even asked myself “what?” It took me a moment to see past the glare of the bright parts. Any quick guesses? Thanks for looking. G
Santa Rosa de Lima, on the banks of the Rio Chama in Abiquiu, NM. The adobe church was built in 1734, (it says on the sign) and is located just off the highway in the ghost town of Santa Rosa de Lima, about a mile south of Abiquiu. Pueblo Bonito, Chaco Canyon. Stepping stones of light through ancient doorways into the past. Standing here alone in a narrow room, when the ruins are void of everything but light and the sound of the wind is probably as close as I’ll get to the Chaco Canyon Culture. On a previous trip I’ve heard flute music played, echoing around the three and four story high walls, weaving like the wind through the cracks and doorways… nothing compares to the virtual silence in this place.
