Desert Heart, Ghost Ranch

Desert heart, Ghost Ranch. Having a little fun with a piece of tree. The half a heart branch was laying there, still, as it was a year or so ago. I photographed it then as well. With nothing better to do yesterday I made this composite. Thanks for looking. G

Apache Plume, Plaza Blanca

Apache Plume, Plaza Blanca, Georgia O’Keeffe’s “white place”. The apache plume, a native plant, is behaving a lot like an invasive species this year. I hope it takes over the terrain of invasive plants and continues to propagate and populate our landscape. Although there were other, more flamboyant and abundant apache plume bushes, I think this particular plant shows tenacity and hardiness ensconced, as it is, in a rock. Thanks for looking. G

Piedra Lumbre, Clouds In Motion

Piedra Lumbre, clouds in motion. In the red rock country in Abiquiu, NM today, on a photo tour with my good friend Harold Hall. The clouds went whizzing bye “wheee…” enjoying the ride across the sky over Piedra Lumbre (shining rock from the Spanish). The day began early, warmed up quickly, and clouds filled in the blanks over the red rock formations. Thanks for looking. G

Cottonwood Tree, Abiquiu

Cottonwood Tree, Abiquiu. In a wash in a “white place” on the Rio Chama in Abiquiu, NM. This is a beautiful cottonwood tree featured as a hanging tree in the movie “Hostiles” starring Christian Bale, Rosamund Pike and Wes Studi. Check it out on Netflix or Join me on a tour in Abiquiu and the Rio Chama Valley. Thanks for looking. G

Ghost Ranch, Abiquiu, New Mexico

Ghost Ranch, the landscape of Georgia O’Keeffe Abiquiu, New Mexico. I never ever tire of this view. If it looks familiar that’s because it has be seen in many movies. A few of the movies are “City Slickers” (the first one) along with “Silvarado” and the remake of “The Magnificent Seven” which wasn’t as magnificent as the original. Thanks for looking. G

Chama River, Abiquiu, New Mexico

Chama River, where it runs through Abiquiu, New Mexico. A beautiful day for a photo tour around the Abiquiu area this week. The skies were stunning. The day started out looking like rain with snow imminent, but as the old adage says “If you don’t like the weather in New Mexico… wait five minutes.” I’ve heard this said for Utah too. This day, on the Chama River, the weather changed in the time it took to drive down the hill between Georgia O’Keeffe’s house and Bode’s General Store in the village of Abiquiu, approximately two minutes away. Could be a record. Thanks for looking. G

Rock Bush, Plaza Blanca, New Mexico

Rock, Bush, Plaza Blanca, Abiquiu, New Mexico. Flash floods whisk through the narrow slot canyon, down arroyos, through culverts and in to the Rio Chama. This rock stands firm with it’s head dress glowing in the afternoon, winter sunlight. All around, the debris from flash flooding has stripped the bark off the few cottonwoods and deposited brush and rocks in many of the nooks and crannies in the wash. Yesterday was a good day for a walk is this beautiful landscape of New Mexico. Thanks for looking. G

Rock form, Plaza Blanca

Rock form, Plaza Blanca the white place in Abiquiu, NM. I made this image by mirroring the shot. It looks like the rocks are trying to form from within. Thanks for looking. G

Chama River, Abiquiu, New Mexico

Chama River, Abiquiu, New Mexico. Great weather for a trip out to Abiquiu on this beautiful fall day. The clouds were moving swiftly casting their dramatic shadows on the landscape. We stopped in at one of the studios on the Abiquiu Studio Tour and visited numerous familiar locations that we love. Below is one of our favorites in the village of Abiquiu. Thanks for looking. G
