Weeping adobe wall, San Francisco de Asis church, Ranchos de Taos, NM. The walls were freshly mudded by parishioners in June. The rains came and nature took it’s course. Next year the work will begin again in the continuous cycle at this iconic building. Thanks for looking. G
Adobe light, late fall along the roadside in Questa, New Mexico. The many benefits of traveling over the same territory, whether on a photo tour or personal outing, allows me to see the subtle changes that occur season by season or day by day. This evening, I decided to return over the next few of days to watch the light shift hourly on this adobe. I’ll see what I come up with. Questa, New Mexico exudes cultural authenticity. Saint Francis Church. Basking in the glow of the street light just over my shoulder and a little ambient light from the pale eastern sky. If I never went anywhere ever again I wouldn’t be short of subject matter around here in northern New Mexico. Thanks for looking. G
Adobe home, magpie nest, San Cristobal. This incredible, intricately constructed nest is now a garden curio. The magpies will, no doubt, recycle the materials in to a new nest/adobe home construction next year. At least I hope so. Thanks for looking. G
Window light, at the plaza in Costilla, New Mexico. The adobe building is extensive, and crumbling. It must have been a beautiful home in it’s day. The source of the light through the window is the sun. The rear half of the house is returning to the earth. Thanks for looking. G
Adobe shadows, Costilla, NM. There are a lot of ruins in New Mexico, but this is my favorite in Costilla on the state line with Colorado. It was a pristinely clear day. The adobe was set against a deep blue sky with the light reflected off the snow filling in the shadows on the adobe walls. Oh and there is a partial moon up there in the left hand corner. Culvert, with adobe shadows in the village of San Cristobal. Sometimes I take a walk through the village to pick up the mail and say “hello” to those I meet. I wave at a passing car and snap a few photos with the iPhone. I’ve been fascinated for some time with this culvert in the field of a neighbor. I’m sure the fascination with this scene will continue. Saint Francis Church, Ranchos de Taos, with pigeons and “the” gas meter. More often than not the gas meter is left out by painters (paintshopping), or erased in a photo application. but left in here, by yours truly, for authenticity. The rocks ringing the building are to stop people parking too close to the walls and buttresses. They make for a nice foreground contrast and a place to sit. Thanks for looking. G
