Saint Francis Church, Ranchos De Taos. Georgia O’Keeffe’s painting of this church and Ansel Adams photograph, along with many other pieces of art created, depicting this building, have made it one of the most famous adobe mission churches in New Mexico. I made this particular shot with three images stitched together. It came out rather interesting and somewhat distorted, accentuating the building’s organic material and shapes. I can’t recall how many images I’ve made of this building over the years. Here’s one of my favorites from the late 1980s. If you click on one of the tags below you will get to see many more. San Cristobal Chapel, in the Village of San Cristobal, New Mexico. We live so close, close enough that we can hear the bells ring for Mass or a funeral. I haven’t heard the bells ring out for awhile. I always remember, as a kid, hearing stories that during World War II the church bells in Britain were silent until the day war ended. That day, they rang out as never before. Stay safe and well. Shadows, in the hamlet of Cerro, New Mexico. The little Catholic church (Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe) has a handrail, more than likely crafted by a local artist. We headed out to the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument, that morning, for some landscape images. We ended up spending an hour working on images of this church. Thanks for looking. G

Weeping adobe wall, San Francisco de Asis church, Ranchos de Taos, NM. The walls were freshly mudded by parishioners in June. The rains came and nature took it’s course. Next year the work will begin again in the continuous cycle at this iconic building. Thanks for looking. G

La Capilla De Nuestra Senora Del Carmen, Llano Quemado, Taos, NM. Last light fading on this iconic chapel lights up the belfry and cross. It is a beautiful piece of New Mexico architecture, representing a culture that extends back before the pilgrims landed. There’s the church of San Miguel in Santa Fe, seventy miles south of Taos, with the date of 1610 carved in a ceiling beam. Thanks for looking. G

Saint Francis, Ranchos De Taos. Here’s a two for one of the Saint Francis Church (San Francisco de Asis) arguably the most photographed church in the USA. It is one of the most supported and well kept churches in New Mexico. It has been photographed by Ansel Adams, Paul Strand, Laura Gilpin and many more including yours truly! The most well known is probably Georgia O’Keeffe’s painting. I made this image in a rain puddle a couple of days ago. As I’ve said before, “I can’t resist a puddle!” Made on an iPhone 7 Plus.
