Church of San Francisco, San Francisco, Colorado. I love finding new places, to me, that is. Venturing in another direction off the beaten path. We are slowly working our away around the very southern part of the state of Colorado. Frankly, this part of Colorado looks more like it should be a part of New Mexico. It’s as if the borders were drawn too far south or not far enough north. Thanks for looking. G

Santa Teresita de Jesus Chapel, El prado, NM. Driving by a few weeks ago, I just had to pull over and snap this image. Here’s another image I made in the winter of 1989 that I posted it on my website on a winter’s day in March 2007 and funnily enough it looked like this today when the clouds lifted off the mountain. Catholic Church in the oldest town of San Luis, Colorado. The church has a date of 1886. Compared to a European time frame, not that old. There are folks here in the valley who know, in recent history, their descendent’s that built this church. There’s something about the history of the west that draws me more and more to this place. San Francisco De Asis sculpture at the Saint Francis Church, Ranchos de Taos, NM. I’m always on the lookout for another angle at this very familiar location. I was showing a photo tour client how to explore something more than the standard shots at this adobe building. This is what I came up with on this trip. Depending on the time of year these two features align. Invariably and because of my familiarity with the time of day and lighting, it is almost always possible to find something new, whether a new angle, or a new feeling that speaks to me in a scene. Revisiting the San Francisco de Asis Church hundreds of times over the thirty five years since I first set eyes on it, has given me a greater understanding and affinity for the place and every aspect it embodies. Icicles, Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Arroyo Hondo, NM. Nice drapery, apron, curtain of icicles around the whole roof line and found on a drive around the block today. Most of the roads were clear. The Hondo/Seco road down the hill in to the valley not so much. Four wheel drive and low gear. This was the payoff. Thanks for looking. G

Llano de San Juan Chapel, just off the High Road to Taos. The cemetery, chapel and surrounds are always a favorite on the High Road to Taos photo tour. This area of northern New Mexico is magical in it’s authenticity and history. Thanks for looking. G

Ojo Sarco Valley church on the High Road to Taos. Surrounded by the tops of the colorful cottonwoods with a backdrop of the juniper and piñon hills and the snow covered Jicarita Peak. It was a splendid time to visit this area just after the first snowfall. Thanks for looking. G

Saint Francis Church Pigeons And Gas Meter

Saint Francis Church, Ranchos de Taos, with pigeons and “the” gas meter. More often than not the gas meter is left out by painters (paintshopping), or erased in a photo application. but left in here, by yours truly, for authenticity. The rocks ringing the building are to stop people parking too close to the walls and buttresses. They make for a nice foreground contrast and a place to sit. Thanks for looking. G

White cross and shadows at the Saint Francis Church, in Ranchos de Taos. If you’ve downloaded my July Journal of Photography then you will be familiar with this image. It’s a photo from many years ago that had eluded me until the last few weeks. I like the simplicity of much of the architecture I find here in New Mexico. If I never leave this state, I doubt I’d ever run out of subject matter. Thanks for looking. G
