Harvest Moon, Sangre De Cristos, October, 2020

Harvest Moon rising over the Sangre De Cristo Mountains, New Mexico, October 2020. The orange color is another fire smoke filter, so to speak. The actual full Harvest moon was today around 3 pm. In this image, the moon was 99.1% of full. Well, we won’t quibble. Thanks for looking and keep looking up. G

Harvest Moon Rising Over Taos Pueblo

The almost full Harvest Moon rising over the Sangre de Cristo foothills at the Taos Pueblo, New Mexico. I waited ten minutes at this location along the highway through El Prado, watching amidst roaring traffic noise, waiting with the camera trained on this spot where the phone app said the moon will rise. The app was correct and I made a sequence of images from the moment it peeped over the trees. As it rose all noise from the highway seemed to cease. I heard birds and crickets and the sound of a light breeze in the trees. The moon silenced my world in that moment. Thanks for looking and continuing to look. G

Harvest Moon, Taos Volcanic Plateau

Harvest moon setting over the Taos Volcanic Plateau. I went out early this morning to watch the full harvest moon setting across the plateau. The scene was augmented by clouds and mists around the hills. This image came together nicely and I made a number of other images in the Arroyo Hondo valley after the sun rise. I’ll post a few of those shots in the coming days. Thanks for looking. G

La Luna Rising Over The Sangre De Cristos

La Luna rising over the Sangre De Cristo Mountains tonight. Some folks think that some kind of warm colored moon at this time of year makes it the”Harvest Moon”. Sometimes it is, and sometimes it isn’t. The color of the moon is insignificant to the fact that it is a “Harvest Moon”. The closest full moon to the fall equinox is the “Harvest Moon”. Ergo, the fall equinox is on or around September 22nd, the October 5 full moon will be the official “Harvest Moon”. That said, EarthSkyNews posted this today regarding tonights moon. Thanks for looking. G
