Little House On The Plains

Little house on the plains, Capulin, NM. This little house out there in the field, befriended by a few ravens, sits alone under a brooding sky. At the time I was on our annual photo trek with my good friend Ron. We descended the plateau and spotted this place. The light was eerily beautiful although foreboding. It hailed heavily after I made this image. When the hail storm passed, a rainbow followed arcing over the Capulin Volcano. Stay tuned and thanks for looking. G

Dovecots, a flashback to fall 2006 at the Mabel Dodge Luhan House courtyard Taos NM. It was very cold with a wind chill today, that got through to my bones. So… I thought it would warm things up with this image from the Mabel Dodge Luhan House. I originally posted a cropped image of this shot, so here is the full panorama of the courtyard with Mabel’s dovecots. San Acacio, Colorado homestead. I’ve made many images of this building and have been watching it’s demise through the years. This image below is from 2007. I first made it in color but I like the black and white in this instance. And this image is from August 2016. Last month the winds had taken even more of a toll on the structure. Some time in the next week I’ll be back up there again. I’ll let you know how it’s holding up or if it isn’t, either way! Thanks for looking. G

Little White House On The Plains

Little White House in the San Luis Valley, Colorado. Could be the plains, looks like the plains but alas is in one of the most fertile valleys where potatoes are the mainstay crop. The San Luis Valley, Colorado.

What struck me the most about this scene was the walk way leading to the front door. One recurring observation I have, regarding a lot of the abandoned towns and buildings in this area, is how thriving things must have been in the day when folks occupied every last dwelling. And another thought … Approaching this home … I wondered who resided here and how many people had walked up this path to the front door, long before me, and were greeted openly by the occupants.

This day we were greeted by a family of ravens who inhabited an abandoned outbuilding nearby. The new guardians served up a bombardment of unwelcome squawks and  screeches, no doubt their way of letting us know visitors were not wanted. Things change. Thanks for looking. G
