San Jose De Gracia De Las Trampas, NM

San Jose de Gracia de Las Trampas, on the High Road to Taos, NM. On a little safari today, we stopped at the mission church and set up to photograph the adobe building with the fast-moving clouds. We spent a few hours in the location waiting as the clouds built and disappeared before our eyes, only to billow up again and vanish once more. Eventually, they returned and became thick, heavy storm clouds and the cold drove us back to Dixon on the Rio Embudo for coffee and snacks. Thanks for looking. G

Raindrops, San Jose De Gracia De Las Trampas, NM

Raindrops, San Jose de Gracia de Las Trampas, NM. Through the looking glass, flashing back to a body of work I did in 2009. Spending more time this last week organizing my hard drives I came across this image I shot of the Las Trampas Mission Church on the High Road to Taos. An image of the St. Francis Mission Church made the exhibit in Taos back in 2010 but as I review my files this image grew on me. Thanks for looking. G

San Francisco De Asis Church, Ranchos De Taos, NM

San Francisco de Asis Church, Ranchos de Taos, NM. This building sure puts on a show for black and white image-making. Not to say that radiant blue skies and sunlight bouncing off the warn adobe mud walls isn’t also beautiful. This is one of my favorite angles and compositions. Thanks for looking. G

Saint Francis Church, Ranchos De Taos, NM

Saint Francis Church, Ranchos de Taos, NM. The San Francisco de Asis Church under a lavender, twilight sky. Soft shadows give this building a gentle look. From across the street you can also see one of the two belfry crosses. The two towers aren’t equal in height therefore only one cross is visible. Well they maybe equal, but the foundation slopes to the south making them uneven. Stay soft and gentle and be safe out there. Thanks for looking. G

Laguna Pueblo, Mission Church, New Mexico

Laguna Pueblo, Saint Joseph’s Mission Church, New Mexico. Delving deeper into my black and white images I came across this photo of the church at the Laguna Pueblo. It really lends itself to black and white photography. Traveling around New Mexico one encounters an abundance of mission churches, they are hard to miss and are an integral part of New Mexico’s past. Many of these structures make great subject matter. Join me when things calm down and I’ll show them to you. Thanks for looking. G

Truchas, Trampas, Ranchos De Taos, NM

Truchas, Trampas, Ranchos De Taos, NM. High Road photography convoy tour continued form my post a few days ago. It was a little too much editing to do all in one go. Tin Roof, Truchas, High Road To Taos, NM

Tin roof, in the village of Truchas on the High Road to Taos, NM, juxtaposed with the mission church belfry. The roof and building are gone, but the church of Nuestra Señora del Sagrado Rosario remains, beautifully intact and restored. Truchas is a regular stop on the High Road to Taos photography tour. The town and it’s surroundings are the filming location for Robert Redford’s movie of the John Nichol’s book, “Milagro Beanfield War.” Thanks for looking. G

Saint Francis Church, Ranchos De Taos

Saint Francis Church, Ranchos De Taos. Georgia O’Keeffe’s painting of this church and Ansel Adams photograph, along with many other pieces of art created, depicting this building, have made it one of the most famous adobe mission churches in New Mexico. I made this particular shot with three images stitched together. It came out rather interesting and somewhat distorted, accentuating the building’s organic material and shapes. I can’t recall how many images I’ve made of this building over the years. Here’s one of my favorites from the late 1980s. If you click on one of the tags below you will get to see many more. Thanks for looking. G

Church of San Jose de Gracia de Las Trampas

Church of San Jose de Gracia de Las Trampas on the high road to Taos. Also known as the Church of Santo Tomas Del Rio de Las Trampas, is one of the most beautiful adobe mission churches in all of New Mexico in my humble opinion. Thanks for looking. G
