Boards with shadows abstract, sans explanation, save to say the smoke from a fire west of Taos, diluting any opportunity for a gorgeous sunset this evening, found me going through the archive again. Our Lady Of Guadalupe shrine at the Santuario de Chimayo New Mexico. This is a scene I photographed in 1984. In the late 1980’s I created a series of polaroid transfer images. This is a scan of the original “emulsion transfer” process produced on “Arches” water color paper. I think the process lends itself well to the subject matter. Thanks for looking. G

A service garage and a Chevy truck. Sometimes I come across a scene on a casual morning walk before the coffee. In this case we are in Tucumcari on old Route 66 on a five day photo tour. I took an early morning stroll around the block to get the blood flowing and came across this simple scene which then got my creative juices flowing for what would be another fabulous day of image making. After an encounter with a noisy little ankle nipper of a dog, who woke up the neighborhood, incurring the wrath of it’s owner, who compounded the situation further, it was time for breakfast. San Felipe de Neri Church. I love finding views that I haven’t seen before like these balcony shadows at the Catholic Church on Albuquerque Old Town Plaza.
Patina on the old mill door. I made this image a number of years ago. I find great pleasure in spending some quality time, with a good beer or a nice glass of whiskey, browsing the hard drives, revisiting images I passed over on first viewing. Sometimes I throw a virtual dart in the form of a four digit suffix (the original image number from the camera), in this case “1191” to see what reveals itself. Yesterday this old door attracted my attention, so here it is. This door belongs to the old mill in La Cueva, New Mexico.

Days long gone. A store front in Mora New Mexico. Coke, Cigarettes, Phone, and EBT cards accepted. I made this image in February, 2006 when these signs left you knowing in no uncertain terms what you could get for your money … or EBT cards at this location. Since then the building has a new coat of stucco, no phone for sure, but I can’t vouch for cigarettes and coke or whether they still accept EBT cards.
One from the Vintage New Mexicana, “Rust to Dust” series. Over the years I’ve been creating images of trucks and embedding them in remnants of themselves, that is, the rusty plate. It gives a kid of coming and going through time feeling. Thanks for looking. G
