Ute Mountain Tree, Costilla, New Mexico

Ute Mountain Tree, Costilla, New Mexico. The tree and numerous others, flank the old volcano on the Taos Volcanic Field. The direction of the prevailing wind is quite obvious. No wind today though at Ute Mountain, just cold. Thanks for looking. G

Snow Plant, Valdez NM

Snow plant, Valdez NM. I think I will rest here a while, until spring comes. I feel a lot like this plant. Gathering energy, ready for bursting out like its buds in spring time. This image was in Valdez at the San Antonio Church, one day following a snow storm. Two feet of snow around the neighborhood covered most everything. Today, after temps in the mid fifties, most of the snow is gone. Thanks for looking. G

Moon, Jupiter, Rising, Taos New Mexico

Moon, Jupiter, Rising, in the skies over Taos, New Mexico. Not a bad way to start the day. Up early, watching the celestial bodies traverse the sky into daylight. The Moon, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn along with Antares the red heart of the Scorpion constellation in beautiful unison. A nice cup of tea nearby and a camera in hand, the day tends to go rather well after a start like that. Thanks for looking. G

Ghost Ranch, Abiquiu, New Mexico

Ghost Ranch, the landscape of Georgia O’Keeffe Abiquiu, New Mexico. I never ever tire of this view. If it looks familiar that’s because it has be seen in many movies. A few of the movies are “City Slickers” (the first one) along with “Silvarado” and the remake of “The Magnificent Seven” which wasn’t as magnificent as the original. Thanks for looking. G

Happy Valentines Day

Happy Valentines Day. Heart on the old gas station in Arroyo Hondo, New Mexico. I was thinking about subject matter for an art project. When I drove by this building, I got an appropriate photo of the day and a few other shots for my art project. Seven years with my love. Have a great Valentines day with your loved ones. Thanks for looking. G

Chama River, Abiquiu, New Mexico

Chama River, where it runs through Abiquiu, New Mexico. A beautiful day for a photo tour around the Abiquiu area this week. The skies were stunning. The day started out looking like rain with snow imminent, but as the old adage says “If you don’t like the weather in New Mexico… wait five minutes.” I’ve heard this said for Utah too. This day, on the Chama River, the weather changed in the time it took to drive down the hill between Georgia O’Keeffe’s house and Bode’s General Store in the village of Abiquiu, approximately two minutes away. Could be a record. Thanks for looking. G

Rock Bush, Plaza Blanca, New Mexico

Rock, Bush, Plaza Blanca, Abiquiu, New Mexico. Flash floods whisk through the narrow slot canyon, down arroyos, through culverts and in to the Rio Chama. This rock stands firm with it’s head dress glowing in the afternoon, winter sunlight. All around, the debris from flash flooding has stripped the bark off the few cottonwoods and deposited brush and rocks in many of the nooks and crannies in the wash. Yesterday was a good day for a walk is this beautiful landscape of New Mexico. Thanks for looking. G

Full Moon, Stars, Taos Tipis, TBT

Full Moon and stars at the Taos Tipis. Throw back Thursday or flash back Friday depending on when you view this image. Delving in the archives from 2015 today, I came across this file. The light on the tipis came from the security light on the building and balanced nicely with the moon and stars. The tipis are gone. For a while they added some nice foreground subject matter against our crystal clear New Mexico skies. Things change. Thanks for looking. G

Taos Mountain In A Different Light

Taos Mountain in a different light, with snow and clouds smoldering on the mountain. Our mountain always presents itself in a different light. A light that seems to improve on itself from the previous viewing. It amazes every time. This image is two days away from yesterday’s image. Thanks for looking. G

Super Wolf Moon Eclipse, San Cristobal

Super Wolf Moon eclipse, in the crystal clear skies San Cristobal, New Mexico yesterday evening. The event of the year so far. I used this opportunity to check out the new sony lens on the night sky. I spent the whole evening out under the stars observing and photographing eclipse. When totality happened the stars became ever so present. It was stunning. I hope everyone was able to see this event. Thanks for looking. G
