Rio Chama Bosque, Abiquiu, NM

Rio Chama Bosque, Cerrito Blanco, Abiquiu, NM. In the bosque (woods) along the Rio Chama. It’s a beautiful location and I feel unencumbered, yet cloistered by the arching trees. Their branches bend and bow in all directions, creating a natural cathedral like feeling. Hmm… think I’ll stay here awhile. I made this image on December 29, 2017. It doesn’t look like it but it was quite cold this day, but not as cold as it’s going to be here in San Cristobal on December 29, 2019. We’re expecting -2º rising to about 22º for a high. Brrrr! Thanks for looking. Stay warm wherever you are. G

Rio Pueblo Gorge, Morning Light

Rio Pueblo Gorge, bathed in morning light, north of the confluence of the Rio Grande. Mornings in northern New Mexico can begin in one of many fabulous locations. Pick a place and go there. Chances are you will be the only person there. Join me on a photo tour and I’ll share some of these spots with you. Thanks for looking. G

Conjunction, Venus, Jupiter, Valle Caldera

Conjunction, Venus and Jupiter, (not the closest conjunction this week), southwest over the Valle Caldera in the Jemez Mountains. It’s a beautiful sight across the plateau. This evening, Jupiter has descended below Venus, and is cruising to the horizon and million of miles beyond. The scale of things are mind blowing, yet simple. It doesn’t take much to impress me. In the middle of the pasture, clear skies overhead, standing in awe of things, I wonder… I wonder that there can be anything greater than this. Thanks for looking. G

Vallecito Mountain, Moonrise, Taos, NM

Vallecito (little valley), Mountain, Moonrise, Taos, NM. A couple of quick images out of the car window on the road home this evening. I was on a very beautiful, but very chilly, photo shoot on the west rim of the Rio Grande Gorge earlier. At this point I was quite happy to sit in the car with the heat blasting, some soft tunes playing and watching this gorgeous moon rise over the peaks. Thanks for looking. G

Abstract Art In The Details

Abstract art in the details, when one gets close enough. The patina in the paint and bodywork of an old GMC truck parked in a field in Taos, NM. In this case the elements are the artist. Thanks for looking. G

Cone Flower, (Retired), Taos, NM

Cone Flower, (retired), Taos, NM. Probably a Black-eyed Susan. From the vast dramatic landscape in yesterday’s image to the intimate details of nature in a decaying flower. Our world always amazes me and I stand staring in awe. Thanks for looking. G

Lightning Storm, Taos New Mexico

Lightning storm, Taos, New Mexico. I set up on the deck in San Cristobal last night. I’d been watching the lightning filling the clouds on the horizon from my chair in the living room. The number of flashes intensified. The storm was far away so there were no discernible sounds of thunder. As things would have it, the sheet lightning I’d originally observed turned to direct strikes on the landscape. Here are the images of multiple “blasts”. Thanks for looking. G

Bison Cow And Calf Colfax, NM

Bison cow and calf, today in Colfax, NM. Traffic stops are frequent and annoying but when you spot a Bison and her calf being rounded up and corralled by a cowboy on an ATV, you don’t mind the waiting until the way is clear. It was one of the highlights on today’s photo tour “Where The Rockies Meet The Plains”. We also saw and photographed, American White Pelicans, Horses, Prairie Dogs behaving with reckless abandon, Pronghorn, Raptors, Geese, Cowbirds, Bluebirds, Kingbirds, Great Pyrenees Sheep Dogs, Western Meadowlarks, Turkey Vultures everywhere, tidying up, a Golden Eagle, the biggest Raven I have ever seen, Bighorn Sheep and… four Camels!!! All of the above against a backdrop of the plains, the mountains and massive thunderstorm clouds. Not a bad day for image making. Thanks for looking. G
