Cone Flower, (Retired), Taos, NM

Cone Flower, (retired), Taos, NM. Probably a Black-eyed Susan. From the vast dramatic landscape in yesterday’s image to the intimate details of nature in a decaying flower. Our world always amazes me and I stand staring in awe. Thanks for looking. G

Lightning Storm, Taos New Mexico

Lightning storm, Taos, New Mexico. I set up on the deck in San Cristobal last night. I’d been watching the lightning filling the clouds on the horizon from my chair in the living room. The number of flashes intensified. The storm was far away so there were no discernible sounds of thunder. As things would have it, the sheet lightning I’d originally observed turned to direct strikes on the landscape. Here are the images of multiple “blasts”. Thanks for looking. G

Bison Cow And Calf Colfax, NM

Bison cow and calf, today in Colfax, NM. Traffic stops are frequent and annoying but when you spot a Bison and her calf being rounded up and corralled by a cowboy on an ATV, you don’t mind the waiting until the way is clear. It was one of the highlights on today’s photo tour “Where The Rockies Meet The Plains”. We also saw and photographed, American White Pelicans, Horses, Prairie Dogs behaving with reckless abandon, Pronghorn, Raptors, Geese, Cowbirds, Bluebirds, Kingbirds, Great Pyrenees Sheep Dogs, Western Meadowlarks, Turkey Vultures everywhere, tidying up, a Golden Eagle, the biggest Raven I have ever seen, Bighorn Sheep and… four Camels!!! All of the above against a backdrop of the plains, the mountains and massive thunderstorm clouds. Not a bad day for image making. Thanks for looking. G

Formations In Rock, Geology Of Plaza Blanca

Formations in rock, the geology of Plaza Blanca, Georgia O’Keeffe’s “white place” Abiquiu, NM. Arches, buttresses and spires abound. A veritable, natural cathedral in rock. I can almost hear evening song echoing off the canyon walls. Thanks for looking. G

Washboard Glass Abstract

Washboard glass abstract. We dropped in at the Rough Riders Antiques in Las Vegas, NM to pick up a few items, namely, some chairs. Antiques and soft window light seem to work well in this image of a glass washboard. The folks at Rough Rider Antiques are delightful and knowledgeable in their stock-in-trade. Hey, Ron Richardson, thanks for the inspiration. Thanks for looking. G

Simplicity In The City, Las Vegas, NM

Simplicity in the city, Las Vegas, NM. This floats my boat. I gravitate to shapes, muted tones  interspersed with occasional organic matter. Here’s an image from a couple of years ago that explains my attraction. Thanks for looking. G

Yucca Bloom, Rio Grande Gorge Rim

Yucca bloom, on the Rio Grande Gorge Rim at the Wild Rivers Recreation Area. The blooms are plentiful this year. The potential for the flowers to manifest is great, but… the Bighorn Sheep seem to enjoy yucca blooms very much. They bite the succulent heads off them and leave the rest. The evidence? Their droppings in the vicinity of a number of the plants. We’ll be back up there again tomorrow so I’ll get to do some more sleuthing. Perhaps we’ll see some flowers like these I posted from Monument Valley, Arizona As always thanks for looking. G

Zig Zag, Morning Shadows, Las Vegas, NM

Zig Zag, morning shadows, in downtown Las Vegas, NM. There are a lot of quirky elements in Las Vegas to incorporate in to images. Shadows form at all times of day. We spent a good part of the day ducking in and out of alleys and doorways thrilled by the surprises we found around the next staircase, building façade, and colonnade. Thanks for looking. G
